'05 MD DB/WR Derrick Williams (Penn State signee)

insiders premium

DW narrowed his list from 60+ offers to 14 schools and tOSU is one of the 14 (and scUM isn't-just thought I would thow that in for fun  ).

Playing early is important to him and he is scheduled to graduate early. Still a long shot with Florida, Maryland and PSU?? possibly being front runners but at least we are still in the running.

He has said before that he wants to be in a wide-open passing offense, so he can get more opportunities to touch the ball. Not to stereotype, but this guy seems like a "me" type player, who's main goal is to get to the NFL as soon as possible and make as much money as possible.

I know he's a great talent, but it's unlikely he'll choose OSU just due to the offense and if he did, I almost guarentee he'd leave early and at some point complain about not getting the ball enough.

He seems like he'd be a waste of time to try and recruit.

Not only that, but he earlier stated that he wants to play in a wide-open conference (doesn't sound like the big 10). I was a little surprised by some on his list.

I agree, unless this guy seriously considers us, the coaches time would be better spent recruiting other players, now if he puts us in his top 5, then we put the full court pressure on.

If RS the QB, were to commit to OSU, I would think it would help us.

I thought that as well. Apparently Nebraska tried to get Harrison Beck to call him, but williams told him to stop calling, and that a QB in his class was not important.

That being said, I doubt OSU is a serious player for this kid, but you never know.

Methomps sarcasm aside

i don't see what the big deal is with his dad or any other adult for that matter, help him. Thank goodness he HAS a dad to consult with! What high schooler could handle the pressures and demands that these coaches and writers etc. put on you. It would be difficult for any D-1 prospect and in my opinion, has to be overwhelming for arguably, one of the top players in the country. Secondly, what's wrong if a kid knows what he wants out of their student athlete experience? The school is going to want a return on it's "investment". The kids out there owe it to themselves to make it at the very least, a mutually beneficial proposition. Good luck wherever he ultimately decides, and hopefully the Bucks make the cut!

Whether it was really his dad or not, we gotta remember that recruits and their families and their friends go into these forums and look at what their fans talk about. I know for fact that a few recruits went onto Bucknuts in the last few years and were a bit surprised with what they saw. A player like Williams doesn't come along every year. Despite what we may think about Derrick or his dad, we all know that this kid could be huge for OSU and that's what matters. If he works hard in school and stays out of trouble then why should any of us care what they are like personally? It's never stopped us from cheering on alot of past players at OSU who weren't saints, that's for sure. Leave the chemistry stuff to Coach, his staff, and the guys Derrick has already met.

Imagine what it would be like to watch practice with Williams, Holmes, and Hall against Ginn, O'Neal, and Whitner going at eachother. OSU could potentially have those 6 names added to a list that includes recent alumni: Galloway, Boston, Glenn, Springs, Winfield, and Doss. Playing against that much talent every day will make them the best.

I would love to get this kid. In my opinion you can never have to much talent at any one position. Plus I think OSU has some space for WR right now this could change after the season but right now we have only one proven WR but in my opinion we have plenty of talent waiting to touch the field. I think that we should recruit him hard no matter how slim of a chance we may appear to have. We should only give up on him if he tells the coaching staff that he doesn't want to come to OSU. But even if he doesn't come here I wish him the best of luck with his recruitment and where ever he ends up playing at.
