'05 MD DB/WR Derrick Williams (Penn State signee)

This one looks like a lost cause at the moment. A major Washington Post article without even a mention of tOSU. But father and son change their thinking pretty frequently according to Mom, so anything is possible.

Let's hope Teddy G. has a monster remainder of the season and stars big in the victory over scUM. That would show DW that receivers can do very, very well at tOSU.

The decision to fire Ron Zook cost Florida its most coveted recruit.

Despite visiting Florida a couple of weeks ago, the nation's top prep player, Derrick Williams of Greenbelt (Md.) Eleanor Roosevelt, now is more likely to commit elsewhere, recruiting analyst Jeremy Crabtree of rivals100.com said Monday.

"We talked to his dad, and it really sounded like it's going to be tough for him to end up at Florida now because they wanted a stable coaching situation," Crabtree said. "I really thought it was going to come down to Florida, Oklahoma and Virginia for him, but it doesn't sound like Florida is going to be there now."

Based on early reaction, Williams, a 6-foot, 190-pounder who projects as a receiver or cornerback, might not be the only recruit who feels that way. Despite the knocks from fans and excruciating losses, Zook was popular among high school players and coaches.

"They are really disappointed they didn't give him a little bit more time," Crabtree said. "I think Coach Zook and his staff did a great job of just relating to people. And you look at his recruiting classes the last two years, and he's had some amazing recruiting classes. They've finished no worse than 20th since he's been there in our rankings."

This helps. Hopefully he adds tOSU now. But.... IMO, Still looks like a long shot.

According to the header and teaser on the OSU rivals site Williams has Ohio family ties and said "Greenbelt (Md.) Eleanor Roosevelt star Derrick Williams, the No. 1 'athlete' prospect in the Rivals.com player rankings, has Ohio ties and says the Buckeyes are on his list of seven schools."

IMHO OSU needs to convince Derrick to visit OSU. He does that, and you have to like our chances vs the remaining teams on his list.

i think he still ends up at florida. spurrier sounds like a mortal lock to be thier next head coach, and i beleive the florida a.d. said they'll make a hire in december. d-will wants to enroll early, and could still do that if he verbals in december.

just a guess, but i doubt we have much of a shot...

I personally would be suprised if Spurrier went back to Florida. Spurrier would have nothing to gain and everything to lose. I just think it would be too high a risk proposition.... Steve probably goes elsewhere.

The Florida AD was the same guy who hired Urben Meyers at Utah. I would bet, you see Meyers at Fla.

Only if the supposed "out clause" in Meyer's contract is a rumor...it supposedly only allows him to leave early to become head coach at Ohio State, Michigan, or Notre Dame. Otherwise, he's locked down at Utah.

Isnt it also possible that a team could buy out the remainder of meyer's contract? It would take an awful lot of scratch for that to happen however.

He visited PSU after they returned home from C-bus (Sat Night and Sunday). It sounds like he enjoyed himself and PSU made some progress with Derrick. He feels like PSU has talent and could be competitive in the near future. He thinks there is certain level of parity in CFB (pointing out the UNC and Maryland upsets of the Florida schools) and there is not alot of difference between a winning and losing season.

He also mentioned five other schools in the running (Florida- still in the mix, OU, Tex, FSU and TN). No mention of tOSU.
