'05 OH LB B.J. Travers (Iowa signee)

Saw an update on him on bucknuts. He is getting some good attention from some big time schools: tOSU, U$C, Oklahoma and PSU. I know attention is different from offers, but I have always rated recruits on their offers instead of stars or stats.

Anyone know anything about him or have a picture?

I see us taking one maybe two LB's in this class, maybe Lenix and this guy or a stud OOS LB. Sounds like he might be a canidate to slide down to the line with his strenght and size at age 17.

Ht: 6-1 Wt: 238 40: 4.74 Bench Press: 450
Position: LB
High School: Westlake HS
(Westlake, OH)

I couldn't find a picture of him but he does sound like a pretty good athlete and that is quite a list of schools that are looking at him. In addition to football, he throws the Discus

Discus competition

Westlake also chalked up another first place award in the discus relay. Senior Dave Ebersole, junior B.J. Travers and sophomore Jeremy Derenburger posted a combined distance of 398-11 1/4.

He had 126 tackles as a sophmore and was honorable mention Division II last year as a junior

Another Ohio LB to keep an eye for is Lance Phillips of Wellston

I know lots!

Man, ask me question about him...I go to highschool with the kid. I'm not quite sure what you want to know, so if you just post some questions I'll give you the answers your looking for. He went up in his bench press max a while ago, he is up to 450 lbs. now. and although I'm not exactly sure what the competition was called, I know he now holds some sort of highschool bench press record. I believe he had over 150 tackles this year. I can get a picture if you would like as well.

BJ had the highest SPARQ RATING in Nike C-bus

Starting this year with the conventional performance measurements of the football combine - the 40 yd. dash, the 20 yd. shuttle, the vertical jump and the bench press - the SPARQ rating combines and weighs these raw test results to come up with a single Rating which allows coaches, athletes and fans to compare football players on their dynamic athletic potential.

http://studentsports.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=286308

The NIKE Football Training Camp made its second stop in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday and while nobody challenged Spencer Adkins' 101.74 SPARQ Rating* posted at the first NIKE Camp in Miami, two athletes put up excellent ratings of just over 90.

B.J. Travers of Westlake (Ohio) posted to the top SPARQ Rating in Columbus out of 250 campers with a 90.84 rating. The 5-11 ½, 228 pound linebacker/fullback clocked a 4.87 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.55 20-yard shuttle, posted a 35.4-inch vertical jump and bench pressed 32 repetitions of 185 pounds.

Right behind Travers with a very good SPARQ Rating of 90.17 was 5-9, 186 pound running back Javon Ringer. The Dayton (Ohio) Chaminade-Julienne star had a great all-around day, shining in drills after lighting it up in the testing, clocking a 4.44 40, a camp-best 3.87 shuttle, jumping 36.9 inches in the vertical and benching 20 reps.

a few tOSU prospects besides the ones listed above
Derrick Williams- 77.72
Ray Herring- 84.92
B. Harrison- 84.69
B. Long- 84.42
D. Jones- 79.14
J. Chappell (Soph-soon to be JR)- 79
Brinson- 75.82

BJ claims in the latest Rivals update that he was offered by Petey Carroll- he also likes OU, Iowa (who is about to offer), PSU, scUM, Pitt (offer), WV (offer). He will camp at tOSU, OU and possibly USC.

His C-bus Nike performance really must have impressed schools

Rivals now has video of Travers and the thing that stands out about him, IMO, is what a hitter he is. He moves pretty well for a big man and has a nose for the football and when he gets there the ball carrier knows about it. Seems like he could be the run stuffing linebacker we lose Schlegel and D'Andrea to graduation.

Travers advances to state in discus

But while advancing to state was enough to satisfy them for now, Avon Lake's Trey Stross and Westlake's B.J. Travers settled for nothing less than a regional title.

Travers was the only other first-place qualifier from the area, winning the discuss throw. Travers threw 165-11 and advanced in the event with Amherst's Jon Pippert, whose 157-1 was good for fourth.

just had an update from theinsiders, he has an iowa and U$C offer. Sounds like he would be a buckeye if offered. If good enough he could fit in behind Kerr perfectly. I am pulling for this kid to get an offer, I mean if he is good enough for U$C...[/sarcasm]
