I can't help but like Travers solely based on the fact that he took a good midwestern school like Iowa over Petey's west coast glitz.
I agree...I am glad that he is headed to Iowa over USC. I wonder if there was an OSU offer in his future or not. I figured he might be one of those guys who if he held for a while, might get a late offer if we had some other OOS kids fall through. I think he will be a solid LB for them and he will be fun to watch the next few years.

I wish I could share in the joy but Ohio kids going to a Big 10 school where they will have 4 opportunites to play against us and prove that it was a mistake to pass up on them doesn't excite me.

My bad...I didn't mean it like that. I was actually hoping for Travers to get an offer and be a Buckeye. I just meant if I had to choose him going to either USC or Iowa, I would much rather see him go to just about anywhere other than USC. The last thing I want to see is a pipeline to southern California forming.

good for him... I hope we get our top one or two choice and all is good for everybody

Also that computerbuck post was right on the money... you forgot to add how much of a good OL prospect he would be :tongue2:

I understand what you're saying wad.

I just hate to see Ohio kids, who may feel they got overlooked by us, have that many chances to prove to their in-state power that they were worthy of an offer. Gives them a little more incentive.

They go to USC, there's no guarantee we meet up with them.

ALA, Ryan Brewer at the other USC? I see your point...

Westlake linebacker commits to Hawkeyes
Thursday, July 22, 2004
Eddie Dwyer
Plain Dealer Reporter
Westlake High's B. J. Travers, regarded by many recruiters and preseason publications as the top middle linebacker in Ohio, has accepted a football scholarship from the University of Iowa.

Travers plans to sign a national letter of intent with the Hawkeyes during the NCAA's signing period in February.

"I was impressed with just about everything out there," said Travers, who visited Iowa this week. "It's a great campus and the coaches are incredible. It reminded me a lot of our program, in the sense of how they run things."

Travers becomes the second standout from the Southwestern Conference to give a commitment to the Big Ten Hawkeyes. Avon Lake's gifted wideout/defensive back Trey Stross said yes to Iowa last month.

One of the most coveted players in the Midwest, the 6-1, 243-pound Travers said Iowa stood above the rest of the universities on his impressive recruiting list. That list included Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Maryland, Indiana, Penn State, Ohio State, Syracuse and Associated Press national champion Southern California.

"It's a great place, but it just wasn't for me," said Travers, who recently visited USC.

Last season, Travers set a Westlake record by making 194 tackles, including 13 behind the line of scrimmage. He also broke up seven passes, caused two fumbles and recovered two fumbles. He had 21 tackles in a 10-6 victory over Midview and 21 stops in a 19-14 victory over North Olmsted.

Demons head coach Ron Johnson said Iowa is great fit for Travers' talents.

He also praised his standout linebacker for doing his homework during the recruiting process and evaluating Iowa academically, athletically and socially

Pair of Hawkeye reserves leave UI football team

October 10, 2006

Iowa linebacker B.J. Travers and defensive lineman Justin Collins have left the team, Iowa officials said today.

Travers and Collins are redshirt freshmen.

Travers, of Westlake, Ohio, was a SuperPrep all-American and Rivals.com top 100 player. He did not play in a game this season.

Collins, of Fort Worth, Texas, played in one game this season but produced no stats. In high school, Collins was named first team all-state as a senior.

No reasons were given for the player departures.

?Justin and B.J. have determined that it?s in their best interest to leave the Iowa football program,? Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said in a statement. ?We wish them well and success in the future.?
