Beckum suffers season-ending leg injury - UWBadgers.com

Wisconsin senior tight end Travis Beckum sustained a fractured left fibula in Saturday's game against Illinois. He underwent successful surgery at University of Wisconsin Hospital on Saturday night.

"Travis sustained a fractured left fibula that required surgery to repair," UW athletic trainer Clark Pearson said. "He had surgery last night performed by Dr. Geoff Baer of UW Hospital and Clinics. The surgery went very well. Travis will begin the rehabilitation process as soon as possible but unfortunately will miss the remainder of the season."

"It's very unfortunate whenever anyone's season is ended because of an injury," UW head coach Bret Bielema said. "Our thoughts are with Travis and his family as he begins his recovery. I visited him today in the hospital and his spirits are good. I know he will do everything it takes to get back to 100 percent."

Beckum ends his Badger career with 159 receptions for 2,149 yards and 11 touchdowns. He ranks third in UW history in both receptions and receiving yards, behind Lee Evans and Brandon Williams. Despite missing nearly three full games with a hamstring injury, Beckum was Wisconsin's second-leading receiver this season with 23 catches for 264 yards.

Beckum was a first-team All-American last season and a finalist for the John Mackey Award. He led the nation's tight ends in receiving yards (982) and was second in the country with 75 receptions. Those 75 catches last year tied UW's single-season record and broke the mark for tight ends, a record he set a year earlier.

As a sophomore, Beckum was a semifinalist for the Mackey Award and earned second-team All-America honors. He led the Badgers with 61 catches for 903 yards that season.

i hope for a full recovery. he was a great football player. once again shows how important the education part is.
