From the USC site...Last year James earned 1st team all-state underclass honors and Student Sports Junior All-American after rushing for 1,915 yards and 35 touchdowns, including 9 in one game. He has also run a 10.74 100m and a 22.02 200m. His favorite school right now is USC. He grew up liking the Buckeyes, but now they currently sit fourth behind his other favorites.

For one of California's top running backs, picking up three scholarship offers within a week is certainly an indication that he belongs as one of the top prospects from the Golden State. James Montgomery, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound back is picking up offers and interest from some top programs.

Just to add an additional fact about James (which will only enhance our disappointment if he decides to matriculate at USCum), he is also a pretty good student. The National Football Foundation and the College Hall of Fame named him one of the top scholar/athletes in California last year, to go along with all his football honors. So he's a qualifier.

I would love to see tOSU land a 195-pounder with 4.4 speed who also happens to get good grades. And plucking him out of California would be icing on the cake. Doesn't get much better than that.

His high school coach said that the best player he had ever coached was Kevin Willhite, back in 1981 -- until James came along. He thinks Montgomery's better.

Any BP folks in northern CA know anything about his recruiting? I know he's a long shot, but IMHO getting a great one from California should be a priority for a perennial national power like tOSU. Perhaps when we rout USCum in the Rose Bowl next January...
