2005 stats (offense): 40 receptions, 680 yds
2005 stats (defense): 140 tackles, 26 TFL's

McCarthy was all over the field as a junior, thanks to his instincts at the position. He can make plays from a number of positions on the field. His three picks showed off excellent cover skills. Like most LB's at this age, he can work to become a better tackler. He has a big time motor, too.

McCarthy was outstanding as a junior last season. He finished the season with 163 total tackles on defense (118 solo and 45 assists), including 13 for a loss. He added four sacks, five interceptions, two caused fumbles, and one defensive touchdown. While playing wide receiver, he hauled in 32 passes for 595 yards and eight scores. He was a first team All-State pick after the season. He also averages 15 points in basketball.

He is listing Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Miami(FL), Penn State, Nebraska, North Carolina and South Florida.

rivals.com update 8/11/05

Ohio State, Miami, Georgia Tech have recently offered. He was born and raised in PA.

I have to say I am stoked up about this one... I have been talking this guy up for awhile to Max and trying to get him in the all american game. I also think he was like the 97th rated player in FLA, according to Rivals. If there are 75 players better then him, then it is the deepest year in FLA history...

OSU offered about a week ago. Penn State, Miami (Fla.), Georgia Tech, NC State, West Virginia and Indiana have offered. The staff is looking at Colin as a outside linebacker. He is thinking about visiting for the Iowa or Texas game. Distance is not a factor. He loves the northern weather.

After watching his vid..... I want this kid, he has excellent footwork for a kid his size, and assuming he goes to college as a backer, that would be a plus.
I say he has the talent to play Line backer and/or fullback at the next level, just think about how dangerous he would be recieving out of the backfield.

Wow, I was very impressed. A couple of things that I noticed.

1. Those are very ugly helmets.
2. I thought he might have looked a little better as a TE than as a LB.
3. Then they started showing him more as a LB, and I was definately impressed. The only thing that I can comment on was on a couple of plays I thought he might have played a little too stiff when stopping the run in the middle.
4. No question he is very athletic. Great tackler and boy can he bring the wood. Maybe more of an OLB than an ILB.
5. On many occassions he got into the backfield very quickly and took the ballcarrier down.

Very good looking prospect and I hope we can land this kid.

Either that measurement is off or he just plays bigger than that, because he definitely seems to be taller than 6-1. Great feet, plays with loose hips, very fluid, great hands. Reminds me a bit of Brian Cushing. I could see him as a LB or even safety. I like this offer...

If they bring in Moeller, Gibson, and Homan they might have to think about him as a safety.

Well Highstreet, the Scout Top 100 for Florida came out and they rated Colin as the #21 player in the state. I agree he looks like a very good player and very underrated by Rivals. I hope the Bucks can land him. I also agree with wadc that he looks taller than 6'1". He looks more like 6'3".

I wasn't expecting to be that impressed either and was thinking he may be overrated at # 21 but after that video I think he may be underrated. I like him better than Sims honestly he looks to be a big time player. Rivals has him way underrated he can hit really good, gets to the ball well, and can make big time plays. On offense he looks tough too very good feet and very athletic. Hopefully we can get this guy. I personally think he is a LB and did think it looked like he is taller than listed. I could easily see him putting on weight and filling out that frame and being a LB. I would like to see Homan, Gibson, Moeller, and McCarthy and that would be a great LB class and would leave room for Schwartz at safety.
