'06 FL OLB/TE Colin McCarthy (Miami Signee)

Just a note for those of us who don't live in florida, Miami is as far away from Clearwater as Chicago is to Cincinnati or Columbus. All I am saying is that distance is quite a bit for both. In fact if I were his parents I might fly to either school to watch his games. I am not so sure that distance is the only thing bothering Colin

Clearwater to Miami =281.7 miles

Clearwater to Columbus =1054.2 miles

I agree that there may be more in play here, but there is no comparison in this argument when it comes to distance and "feeling at home."

For the kid to come that close to committing and then back off, I agree there is something going on...and it may not be on Colin's end.

Miami is a very easy drive from Clearwater. A pleasent open highway straight shot. Couple of hours in the car together and the family is at all his home games.

OSU games require a trip to the airport and all the extra expense and hassle that entails.

It is a big deal and you can't blame the kid for wanting to stay near home(or the family for possibly adding pressure for that reason).

Just like Boren, its a testament to the staff that its even this hard of a decision for the recruit.

Leaving Florida is not an easy decision for these kids. They know full well they are leaving the best climate in the country if they do. When all is said and done, even the best, nastiest, toughest footballers in the nation are still mama's boys at heart.

Folks we are all forgetting one thing about that article. That article is from CaneSport, the Miami Rivals site. While it was published on FLA Varsity, it is from CaneSport, which sometimes is referred to as "CrapSport" by non-Miami Rivals readers. Not saying that what they are reporting isn't the case with Colin, just that they are well known for their very slanted view with their articles.
Here's to hoping that Colin makes the best decision for him and his family. I would love that to be tOSU, but if it's not, then best of luck to him.

that makes sense then to go after Grant if McCarthy is looking
at the U harder...I live about 45 minutes from Clearwater and my wife's family is still up in CBus so I can sympathize on the distance issue..wish him all the best no matter what he decides
