'06 FL WR Greg Mathews (Michigan signee)

at the end of the day we have like 6-7 recruits that we'd like to take and about 3 spots if memory serves. If Matthews doesn't want to get on the Tressel train it'll leave without looking back.

still have Lyons, and Bowman has strong WR candidates, and Smalls all but signed.

I would argue that Mathews is a little more important than that...with several "insiders" stating that Lyons is a WVU lean, Bowman being a potential DB and Small having some academic issues to shore up, I think that Mathews could be a very important part of this class.

I agree with this, but it could become a log jam if Small does get in and they leave Bowman on offense. That would be 4 wideouts.

At this point it is fair to say that something just isn't right here. Every public statement Mathews makes he strongly re-affirms his verbal to scUM and denies any real interest in OSU. The latest example is Kurelic's report on 1/20. (Note: While released on 1/20, it is not clear to me when the actual interview with Mathews occurred.) OTOH, HH and some other "insiders" have insisted that Mathews will switch.

Now either the sources of the "switching" info are way off or Mathews has misrepresented his status. Frankly, I am to the point that I hope the sources are just wrong on this one because I am very uncomfortable with Mathews actions over the last couple of weeks if they are right. Certainly he does not want to "burn his bridges", but his for attribution comments are much stronger than is necessary to do that IMO.

Navybuck, I was just discussing this in the office today with another Buckeye fan. We talk recruiting all the time. Even if he was considering OSU so heavily, why be so
Adamant that you are firm with your Michigan commitment. You don't have to play it up so much (assuming he is indeed even serioulsy considering OSU). I wouldn't want one of our recruits doing that to us if they were seriously considering switching to another school. I like how Bowman is handling this much better. He is being honest about it and says he is 50/50 between Iowa and OSU and seems to be honest with the coaches. Just my two cents.

Remember that scUM sites slant thier articles a little bit. He could say I am solid to scUM right now, b/c you don't want to burn any bridges, and not wanting them to know he has that much interest in tOSU.

they all slant their articles...Kurelic and Duane's articles are usually so short that they don't have time to slant them, but the rest of them (Housteau, Nida, etc.) slant their stuff just about as much as anybody else out there.

example A: the interview Gary did with Boren at his high school

having said that, Mathews adamant stance towrads Michigan still seems a little fishy. no one that staunch in their commitment takes additional visits.

and nobody agrees to an in-home visit from another coach if they are strongly committed to their arch rival.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Agreed 100%. There is obviously some questions in his mind about his verbal.......

Any news on JT's apparent home visit with Mathews last night?

I followed this recruitment closely, and you are wasting your time,IMO.The guy has stated on several occasions his verbal is solid. The assertions here seem more "hope based",than factual.Doug Worthington did the same thing last year.He was solid in his choice, but took visits. If it wasn't for his family background, would anybody even be thinking in this direction.I'd like to have him,but receiver isn't a crucial position. Many recruits like to take visits.I would too,if I had the chance. It's a once in a lifetime chance.

No this situation is far from Worthington's for many reasons.

First: Worthington let it be known that he was just taking visits for fun.
Second: Matthews Mom is a huge Ohio St. fan and it has been known throughout the process that he would of liked to become a buckeye, but his grades were not up to where they needed to be.
Third: Most insiders feel good about this one, and I am sure the insiders from the other schools recruiting Worthington last year weren't that confidence.
fourth: The articles are coming from the michigan sites, which arent very realiable IMO.

I'm starting to want this kid very badly for the simple fact that scUM would blow up if we stole him. We could also use a kid of his size & measurables. He's a 4star kid that the coaches have obviously wanted badly in this class for some time now. I say keep pushing and let's hope he realize that he accidentally verballed to the losing school. :)
