'06 FL WR Greg Mathews (Michigan signee)

We will see,but I mentioned the family factor. As far as the "insiders" go,didn't one say last week that Colin was a lock for OSU?

...And at the time, they were probably right about McCarthy, who is an LB/TE. In the time since he was proclaimed a "lock", OSU has received commitments from Johnson (LB), Miller (TE), Gant (S/LB), and is looking as strong as ever with Grant (LB) since he cleared admissions. Many things have obviously changed since then.

If our insiders are saying there's a legit shot with Mathews, I'll take that as being the case at this moment. These guys can be fooled, but they are pretty good at what they do. And even though that's probably the case now, things can and probably will change one way or another between now and then. Just look up, or look back to the recruitment of Dwayne Jarrett for proof.

All that said, I really want Matthews as a Buckeye. Getting him away from scUM would be a double-win for the staff. It's a good thing he wouldn't count as two scholarships. :)

As far as McCarthy being a lock, I for one was never really that excited about landing him. Check with 44820 and 22 on this...I was very public about this. And obviously the staff cooled on him as well, seeing as though we have picked up a flurry of commitments and interest from other nationally ranked LB recruits.b So I think he was only a lock in the sense that if the staff wanted him, and was willing to go after him hard, they could have had him.

As for Mathews, those of you who think we are wasting our time are free to not waste their own time by posting useless information. No matter how closely you think you've followed this situation, no one has followed this situation closer than the BP Recruiting Team and no one on this web site collectively has more inside connections around the country. We have known about many commits well before the info was made public. Again, I will go on record as saying I am and always have been very skeptical about the whole Mathews situation. But we all know, where there is smoke, there is fire...

Much has been made of McCarthy's recruitment, but I don't agree the staff cooled on him due to his skill, but rather they got sick of waiting for him, he's obviously having a problem deciding on going to a school that's far away from home now, when at the time seemed like that's all he ever wanted. Now the staff feels that with his situation if flux, they need someone to replace him, believe me, they would take him tomorrow, if he commits.

I didn't mean to make it sound like the staff just flat out didn't think he was good enough to play at OSU. His offer sheet speaks for itself. but given the depth of the LB pool the staff was working with this year, it is my understanding that, like you said, the staff was fully prepared to explore other options. Kind of reminds me of Javier Estopian from a few years back, although he seemed a little less inclined to leave Florida than Colin did at one point.

As for Greg and his situation, I guess no news is exactly that. Hopefully some info will start coming out in the next few days...

With all the speculation and in-home visit from Tressel, you would think that there would be some positive updates on Matthews. Ever since HH has made that statement he hasn't came back to BN to reaffirmed it.
I do not think anything positive for the Buckeyes will come of Matthews.

Something positive with definately come from Mathews. Either he joins the Buckeyes (which is positive), or he stays a Wolverine. Then on the third Saturday of November for the next four years, Mathews can be a part of bringing happiness to the Buckeyes

I think he didn't go back to BN because they went nuts while Mathews hoped to keep everything quite. I think HH might have been a little ticked at Duane...
