Scott Kennedy Scouting Report: D'Vontrey Richardson is an early candidate for the Top Overall prospect in the state of Georgia this year. I was blown away by him on film, and I was very interested to get a look at him in person to see how big he was. He measured 6-1 and over 200 pounds, and finished in the Top 10 in both the 40 yard dash and standing broad jump at the Kennedy/CES Southern Invitational last month.

He makes the plays, and he is a standout physically. Some teams may try and move Richardson into another position, and he certainly has the athleticism to do it, but he is so dangerous with the ball in his hands it would be hard to move him. He can beat a team running the ball or throwing the ball, and his teammate Lavelle Parker (#4) is a D1 prospect as well. They should put up huge numbers together as seniors.

D’Vontrey Richardson of Lee County High School is one of the elite QB/ATH’s in the Peach State for the class of ’06 and he has an early leader for his signature. Who is it?

Clemson is my favorite. I also like Georgia, Troy State, Miami and Auburn. I’ve talked to Clemson, Georgia, Alabama and Troy so far,” D'Vontrey Richardson said.

Why are the Tigers on top?

“Clemson has offered me so that gives them an advantage and they also want me at quarterback. They said they want to take two quarterbacks this year kind of like Tennessee did last season (2004).”

What is most important to Richardson in finding a school?

“Playing time is going to be real big but I’ll play any position even though I prefer quarterback.”

Does he have any indication of where he’ll camp this summer?

“Were going to Clemson and Troy’s 7 on 7. I’ll go to Alabama and Georgia’s senior camp as well.”

How would the Lee County star assess his strengths and weaknesses?

“I need to do more to be a leader. This is my senior year and I need to do my part as a senior. What I do best is make plays. I like to try and stay in the pocket, but I can do a lot of things with my legs.”

Is Richardson a candidate for an early commitment?

“I’ll probably wait a little while. I want to take some visits before I decide.”

Is there one player he models his game after?

“I model my game after Michael Vick because he wants to stay in the pocket first and then run second.”

This South GA prospect will be an awfully hot commodity as we began to move towards the southern months.

Clemson is still Richardson's leader as they have offered him at QB. One of his coaches really likes FSU and Richardson has always liked Ohio State. He boasts more than 20 offers. Alabama and GaTech are recruiting him the hardest. he would like to attend the same school as his teammate Lavelle Parker who also likes Clemson. He will take some visits before a decision is made.

I watched his videos, and they were very impressive. He makes plays all over the field. He runs, throws, and returns kicks. A very impressive prospect imo, and I hope we can convince him to take a visit.

The kid's video clips are VERY impressive. He is a major talent. Could be a serious QB prospect or possibly safety prospect. Getting a visit out of him would be huge.

Georgia QB Has Clemson Offer

By Phil Kornblut
Clemson is an early offer for QB D'Vontrey Richardson (6-2 211) of Leesburg, GA according to his coach David Johnson. Richardson also has offers from Georgia, Louisville and Troy, his coach's alma mater. Richardson also is hearing from USC, Ohio State, UCLA, Florida State, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, LSU, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Richardson is a double threat as a passer and a runner. "He has the total package," Johnson said. "I compare him to Charley Ward but he's bigger. You put him in the shotgun and let him see the field. He has quick feet and a strong arm. He could play any skill position but he wants to play quarterback." Last season Richardson passed for 1738 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 1132 yards and 14 scores. He has no favorite according to Johnson.

Richardson's favorite target is WR Lavalle Parker (6-1 180) who caught 45 passes for 809 yards and 8 touchdowns last season and averaged 18 yards per catch. "He has one of the best off the ball releases of any receiver I've coached," Johnson said. "He has good, quick moves. He finds the open spot and doesn't mind catching the ball over the middle." Parker has an offer from Troy according to Johnson and that's his only official offer thus far. He's also getting interest from Clemson, USC, Ohio State, UCLA, Florida State, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, LSU, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Johnson said Parker likes Clemson the most but is keeping his options open.

I've had the pleasure to see him play last year and he is an absolute stud. Lee County has no football tradition and play in a very tough region. They went 1-9 two years ago and 3-7 last year. They return just about everybody this year and could be very good. Anyway, Richardson nearly single-handidly beat Thomas County Central. Central is one of the top programs in the state. They won 5 state titles since 93 and have played for two more. In that game, he did his best Troy Smith against Michigan impression, rushing for more than 150 yards and throwing for 200 or so. He had five touchdowns, but Lee Co. lost 48-42.

He's more dangerous with his feet, but he also showed above average passing ability. I can't find my final stats, but I believe he accounted for about 2,800 all-purpose yards and 25 or 26 touchdowns. He was right around 1,000 yards rushing and probably 12 touchdowns. There is no question he is a big-time talent. Leesburg is outside of Albany. Louisville has a pipeline to the area, they've recruited 7 or 8 Albany kids in the past couple of years, including Deion Branch. They will be a player in his recruitment. Clemson has a lot of ties to the area as well, so they will also be a player. I see Oklahoma is listed, Antwone Savage (All-Big 12 receiver) is from Albany, so they have a connection down here. But he will probably have offers from everybody in the southeast and it's too early to know where he'll end up.

I'll keep people updated as the summer goes on. I talk reguarly with the sports writers in Albany, I'll see what they have been hearing.

P.S. I will add this, he must have some sort of serious interest in Ohio State to mention them. They aren't a program that players down here mention just to keep the locals happy.
