Jamie has been offered by Clemson, Illinois, and Northwestern. Jamie grew up in SC, so he was happy about the Clemson offer. He is going to junior days at Illinois this weekend, Northwestern the following weekend, and Notre Dame at the end of February. With the offer, Clemson is the early favorite, but Jamie also likes ND and Michigan.

Jamie was offered by Notre Dame on his trip there this weekend. It is his 5th offer. ND has drawn even w/ Clemson. He will visit Clemson towards the end of March. He is honored to be shown this much attention early on. He wants to make an early decision, but it may be later than he originally planned.

Tigers Slight Leaders For Cumbie

By Phil Kornblut
Clemson holds a narrow lead over Notre Dame right now for TE Jamie Cumbie (6-7 264) of Morris, IL. "They are both good schools and they have both offered," Cumbie said. "I would put Clemson a little bit ahead. I grew up in South Carolina (Andrews) and I grew up a Clemson fan. But I'm not taking anything away from Notre Dame. They've got a lot to offer." Cumbie has offers from Clemson, Notre Dame, Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue. He is also getting serious interest from Southern Cal, Iowa, Tennessee and Ohio State. He's made unofficial visits to Clemson, Notre Dame and Illinois. Cumbie also is a baseball prospect as a pitcher with an 89 miles an hour fastball. He said he will keep his options open for baseball because of the chance he'll be drafted in the summer of 2006. As for a football decision, he said he's in no rush and does not have a set date in mind for making one.

Jamie is already getting tired with the recruiting process. He plans to end his recruitment early and is focused on Clemson and Notre Dame. Clemson is a slight leader right now, but an unofficial visit to Notre Dame has them in a close second.

Tigers Nose Ahead For Cumbie

By Phil Kornblut
Clemson has taken a slight lead on Notre Dame for DE Jamie Cumbie (6-7 265) of Morris, IL. Clemson recruiter David Blackwell was at his school Tuesday, and Cumbie said Blackwell and Tiger head coach Tommy Bowden will be at his school in May. He expects Notre Dame coach Charlie Weiss to visit his school next week. Clemson and Notre Dame were the only schools Cumbie visited in the spring. He has offers from those two along with Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue. Tennessee has been showing stronger interest of late and he's also getting attention from Southern Cal, Iowa and Ohio State. Cumbie plans to make a decision around the end of May or in early Summer. Cumbie is also a baseball prospect and he's 5-1 with 2 saves and 3 complete games this season. He said if he goes to college for football, he will not play baseball. Cumbie also plays tight end but said he favors playing defensive end.

From Scout.com...Jamie favors Clemson and Notre Dame at this point. Tennessee, who recently offered, Purdue, Illinois and USC round out the schools Jamie is looking at. He is tiring of the process and would like to decide soon. Clemson was his dream school growing up.

Cumbie Closing In On Decision

By Phil Kornblut
DE Jamie Cumbie (6-7 265) of Morris, IL said Monday night he plans to make a decision "in a couple of weeks to a month. I want to get all that weight off my shoulders for next year." Cumbie basically has narrowed his decision to Clemson and Notre Dame and said the two are dead even at this time. "It's going to be a tough decision," he said. "I'm just going to make the decision where I'm going to excel the most, where I will feel overall at home. It's just got to be in my heart. It's got to be true." Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden and assistant David Blackwell were at Cumbie's school Monday. He could not talk to the coaches but he did make eye contact with Bowden. "I gave him a head nod and a smile, and he just smiled," Cumbie said. Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weiss has already been in the school. Cumbie also has offers from Tennessee, Purdue, Northwestern and Illinois and while not discounting any of those schools, he is primarily focused on the Tigers and the Irish.
