'06 MN DT Walker Ashley (Minny...no, maybe USC......no, PSU...no, Minnesota commit)

In todays Mpls Star Tribune it implies that this is a three team race between Minnesota, OSU, and USC. It says that PSU still has an outside shot though.

"Walker Ashley, the Eden Prairie High School football player and son of former Vikings linebacker Walker Lee Ashley, is one of the top five recruits in the state. He is trying to decide between Minnesota, Ohio State and Southern California, with Penn State still a possibility since his father and grandpa played there." (Sid Hartman)

Ashley watch

There are many college football prospects among those Eagle varsity candidates.

Eagle senior defensive tackle Walker Ashley (6-4, 285) will be one of the state’s top choices for college recruiters.

Ashley, whose dad, Walker Lee, was a former linebacker for the Vikings, is ranked among the top 10 high school defensive line prospects in the country by many college recruiting services.

“Ashley is as good a player as we have ever had at Eden Prairie,” said Grant. “He has great speed and quickness.

“Ashley was an all-state selection last year as a junior when he finished with 13 tackles behind the line of scrimmage.”

BSB premium

FWIW- BSB says their sources are indicating an increasing possibility that Ashley will choose to be a Buckeye.

Obviously there is some conflicting info on Walker- the Rivals and Insiders updates seem to indicate that tOSU is in good position while message board scuttlebut might point toward USC. I guess this is why we love following recruiting

What an unbelievable get Ashley would be. He hasn't even been on campus yet for a visit, has he? I certainly hope BSB's sources are correct but it would seem strange there is talk our chances to land him might be increasing before he ever steps foot on campus. I suspect Petey will be a factor before it's all said and done. :wink2:

OSU was his first offer... and that really sticks out to a recruit

Someone needs to tell the coaches at schools like Akron and Toledo how important offering a kid first is. Do they realizes the quality players they are missing out on?? :p

It obviously doesn't hurt to be in on a kid early but I suspect there is a whole lot more that goes into a recruit's decision.
