'06 MN LB Tommy Becker (Minnesota signee; transfer to St. Thomas)

Becker is a fine football player, but with tOSU back in on Gibson and Johnson, add in the fact that we are sitting pretty with Colin McCarthy, and that doesn't leave much room for Tommy. The one thing I think could be an option for him is at FB, but he has other offers at LB, and I believe that that is where he wants to play.

I understand what you are saying about why we have not been in contact with Tommy, but given his talent and relationship with Laurinaitis, I would love to see an offer sent his way. I am fairly confident this is a player we will hear about in the future...whether it is playing against OSU or as a all-conference selection or whatever.

Becker is down to Iowa St. and Minnesota. He visited Iowa St. this past weekend and he will visit Minnesota this weekend. He will decide soon after his Minnesota visit.

Either the Cyclones or the Gophers will be getting a heckuva football player very soon...

Second Minnesota player quits team

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Redshirt freshman fullback Tommy Becker said he has decided to quit the University of Minnesota team and will transfer at the end of the semester.
Becker was the No. 2 fullback behind Justin Valentine, a senior, and had played in four the six games this season.
"I was not happy with what was going on," said Becker, a Wayzata graduate. "I was a (Glen) Mason recruit, and Brewster has his own ideas. It wasn't about wins and losses."
Becker was recruited as a linebacker, but only briefly played defensive end in spring practice before being moved to offense. He cited his frustration at not playing his preferred position.
