Since transferring from Campbell Memorial, Derrell is hoping to help establish a Mooney to Notre Dame pipeline. He attended OSU's Junior Day. One of the OSU coaches spoke to Derrell's mother yesterday and expressed serious interest in getting Derrell signed with OSU. But Derrell has his heart set on being a part of the mystique at Notre Dame. He has yet to receive any offers, although that should change soon.

By Chris Nida...Johnson is receiving interest from Penn State, Michigan State, Illinois, Akron and Ohio State. He was at OSU for their junior day. He claims no leader at this point.

Honestly, this article seemed pretty heavily slanted towards everyone not named Notre Dame...which is where I think he ends up if given the chance.

By Bill Kurelic...Derrell says he is being recruited as an athlete. He is hearing the most from Ohio State, followed by Penn State, Virginia, North Carolina, Michigan State, Michigan, Syracuse, and Illinois. The only school he has visited has been Ohio State.

Noticeably absent in that list of schools sending him mail is his favorite, Notre Dame. They aren't even listed in his Rivals profile anymore.

The last time I read about Johnson, I noticed how ND had seemed to stop recruiting him. Then today, in Duane Long's lists of the top recruits in the state for 2006, Johnson is ranked all the way down at #70. This is obviously a recruit who has a little to prove this fall before he is considered a major D-1 talent...

I've seen Mr Johnson play in person. He is very athletic and can play anywhere on the field. I was talking to some of the coaches from another Rival High School and they said that he was the best prospect in the Mahoning Valley last year and that included Mario Manningham(sp?).

I got the opportunity to throw some routes with Johnson over the weekend, and he was quite the physical specimen, he ran a 4.45 but wasnt quite as polished as what i saw Brian Hartline at last year, dropped one of my passes (that i threw on a bullet, but still, D-1 prospect has to catch it right?) With a big senior year maybe he will get an offer, definatly has the potential, maybe my evaluation is wrong but we all have our opinions.
