'06 OH CB Jovani Chappel (Pitt Verbal)

i wouldnt be surprised if osu offered him at camp if he shows as well as everyone seems to think he will, especially with walls looking like he's going elsewhere.
it is definitely possible, although I can't help but think of Brandon Harrison when I think of Jovani. Maybe Coach Haynes might be more willing to give an offer to a corner who is 5-8...

Yeah but I think Harrison could of got an offer if he would of went to camp and proved that he deserved one,like Chappel is willing to do and wants to do it. Hopefully he can grow two inches.(I did b4 my senior year)

god point about Harrison...he felt like he had already done enough to warrant an offer before deciding not to attend camp.

agreed. think chauncy incarnato. osu needed ol in the worst way, and he refused to camp at osu, and was never offered as a result. harrison was n the same boat. if he could have proven that he could hang with hartline, amos and the other wr at camp, he would have been offered.

if chappal shows he can hang with some of the wr at camp this year, he'll get his offer.

$ Rivals $

Chappel attended the adidas camp at Tenn. He may have been the most impressive athlete at the combine. He benched 185lbs, 19 times and has a 34 inch vert. He did not run. He grew up a fan of Ohio State and Tennessee. He will graduate early and notes that it has worked out well for Ohio kids like Donte Whitner....

AMP on Rivals did a piece on Jovani which includes some highlights. Jovani says he is starting to feel the pressures of recruiting and that the best part of his game is his balance, tackling, and the fact that he plays under control. He is looking for stability on the staff at the school he selects.

Check out the Film Study 101 blog for a review of Jovani's film. I am hoping he impresses at camp and gets an offer from OSU.

when a player says they are looking for stability on the staff is that a strike against OSU? We have a high degree of turnover in our staff it seems...we definately seem to be a great training ground for football coaches.

He could be referring to snyder and tucker moving on, or he could be referring to the "smoke cloud" that is supposedly about to swallow up Tressel too. I wouldn't read too much into that statement.

When the kid is answering questions in an interview done by Rivals, even if he is leaning towards Ohio State, I doubt he is sitting there and formulating his answers based on how he feels about the staff at OSU. The kid was simply stating that he would like to go somewhere where the head coach and his position coach wil hopefully be there the entire time he is there. I don't think it has anything to do with Snyder or Tucker or any other coach at OSU or any other program for that matter.

Jovani will be at tOSU's camp with the intentions of showing the staff why he deserves an Ohio State offer, and to show them that he can lock down any of the receivers they match him up with... Contrary to what may have been reported elsewhere OSU is showing a strong interest here. Fwiw Hayes already has a relationship with Jovani, as he was recruiting him hard for MSU...

I love his attitude as well, but you have to think that being 5'8", he's REALLY going to have to knock the coaches' socks off. They have backed away time and time again from small corners over the past 4 seasons and I would be impressed to say the least if this kid earned himself an offer at camp. Good luck to Jovani!
