'06 OH CB Jovani Chappel (Pitt Verbal)

maybe he's grown a little bit since his sophomore season (when the 5'8 was recorded)? if he's up to 5'9 or 5'10, size becomes less of a problem if he has the neccesary cover skills. even if he didn't grow, i'd still take a long look at him. i believe duane said he could be better than winfeild at this point...i'll take that!

as i have said previously, i think the height issue is a bit overplayed. how many cb's can we name that werent offered primarily due to height outside of harrison?

even then, i would contend that harrison probably would have gotten an offer if he had come to camp like the coaches requested. That hindered his progress towards an osu offer more than being 5'8'' IMO.

remember in 2004, osu needed OL in the worst way. Chauncey Incarnato was one of the better prospects in state. osu asked him to come to camp, and he refused to do so. He never got an osu offer.

There seems to be a trend regarding offers and coming to camp moreso than height.

Arizona, Penn State, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Purdue have offered. He has no leader but wants to play early.

As a sophomore among juniors at last year's Columbus, Ohio, NIKE Camp, Chappel came in and posted a top ten 40-yard dash time amongst the upperclassmen defensive backs. As a sophomore, Chappel ran a 4.53 40-yard dash and benched 185 pounds 20 times at the NIKE Camp. In the classroom, Chappel holds a 3.3 GPA and scored an 18 on the ACT

I think if he performs extremely well at camp, he could see an offer his way very soon thereafter. OSU has had a recent history of seeing a solid corner at camp and offering him almost immediately after. Malcolm Jenkins shined like a star last year and got an offer instantly. I don't know that there are many more cb's on their board right now besides Coleman (perhaps a safety prospect afterall) and Small. Also, I would think that if OSU played their cards right here, Chappel would wait a good while for an offer from them if he thought he saw it coming. Not saying it will happen, just saying it could.

If he shows out at camp and is still not offered, I would think it would be hard to turn down some of the programs that are showing strong interest. They could possibly play their cards just right though. Fwiw he will show out at camp. He always has so far...

I am in the camp that is starting to really like the idea of offering Jovani. I was on the other side of the fence when it came to Harrison, but I think Jovani plays a lot bigger than he really is. He is physical, strong, fast and loves to hit. He would make a great bench corner in our system.

I tend to believe that being a good corner is about being in the right position at all times. Being 5'8" he won't get the interception on the jump ball to a 6'4" or taller receiver maybe but he can still be effective by breaking up the pass or being in perfect position where someone else makes the play.

He is plenty fast enough and definitely strong enough. I think if Jovani has the heart to be a Buckeye he will be in the end. He may have to wait a little while to get that official offer (camp) but it will be worth it in the long run if he does.

Jovani does not have a leader but is listing Purdue, West Virginia and Penn State as his top choices with Tennessee, Ohio State, and Notre Dame in the running. PSU is his only offer thus far. He plans to camp at Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee, Penn State, and Purdue.

Jovani attended the Purdue spring game and was told an offer could be soon. North Carolina, Penn State, Boston College, Illinois, West Virginia, Eastern Michigan, Akron and Miami (Ohio) have offered.

West Virginia, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee and Ohio State, with North Carolina are his favorites.

Jovani has offers from Penn State, Purdue, North Carolina, and some of the MAC schools. He says he is receiving interest and visits from many schools but he is wide open between Penn State, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Purdue, Ohio State, and Michigan. However, he saved the highest praise for tOSU and Michigan as he is hoping for an offer from both of them. He plans to camp at Michigan this summer.
