By Chris Pool...Lamar's coach calls him the best athlete on the team, which includes Lee Tilley and Brennen Glass. North Carolina State and Indiana are showing a lot of interest. He is also interested in BGSU, OSU, and Toledo.

Mapp, a 6-2, 242-pound DE/TE has seen interest from several schools but none have pulled the trigger. That was until this weekend when the Akron coaching staff made their offer official.

Akron, a program on the rise in the competitive MAC, is looking for special athletes to help them stay in step with powers Miami of Ohio, Bowling Green and Toledo. After a great first season under new head coach J.D. Brookhart, the Zips are gaining ground and headlines as their former quarterback is receiving much interest from NFL teams in this years draft.<o =""></o>

The offer from Akron could be the first of many to come. Schools from across the country have inquired about the talented Wildcat this spring.

Mapp checked in for a recent track meet at 6'4" 234 and ran an 11.3 in the 100!

Lamar has an offer from Akron. He is also receiving letters from Michigan State, Notre Dame, LSU, and Miami (Ohio). Lamar's favorites are Ohio State, North Carolina State, Michigan State, Akron, LSU, and Notre Dame. Chris Pool foresees Lamar attending a Prep or JUCO next year.

Who's the top football prospect in the state of Ohio? After that, who are the next 99? It's a tough question to answer and a tough task to try and answer it, but each year, Duane Long of Ohio High magazine rounds up piles of videotape, scouting reports, feedback from coaches, and more, in an attempt to come up with a list of the state's top 100 prospects. We are going to be counting down his first top 100 of 2005 over the next several days, starting today with the second half of the list.

Mapp is listed at #63 prospect in Ohio. The article suggests that Lamar should be getting more pub.

Impressive at the UC camp. Look for his stock to rise during the camp evaluations.

Lamar still only holds offers from Akron and Eastern Kentucky, but he is confident a qualifying ACT/SAT score will bring many more offers as he is still garnering plenty of attention.

Lamar is basically only hearing from a few MAC schools right now due to academics.
