'06 OH RB Jacob Ramsey (Cincinnati signee)

Seems as he could be an excellent addition as the "second back" so to speak, to Chris Wells. One "insider" raves about his camp performances. Whatever he missed out on as far as exposure due to his injury his junior year, he is making up for during his camp performances. I'll look forward to seing how he does during the rest of the summer, and whether or not a Buckeye offer materializes.

Jacob seems to pass the 'look test' at camp in these BN photos

Jacob Ramsey

Camp season is important for Columbus Independence running back Jacob Ramsey as it will give him a chance to show coaches what he can do after missing last year with an injury. Ramsey spoke with Duane Long about where he stands after OSU camp and what schools have come in with offers.

For a player like Jacob Ramsey, summer camps are vital. The senior running back from Columbus Independence sat out 2004 with an injury and didn't see many carries in 2003 as he was in the same backfield as current Ohio State running back Erik Haw, who posted a 3,000-yard season that year.

Therefore, Ramsey needed camps to prove to college programs what he can do, and he has done just that. Ramsey participated in this weekend's Senior Advanced Camp at Ohio State and also camped at West Virginia, Ohio University, and a combine in Michigan, and the offers are starting to come in.

"I have offers from Eastern Michigan, Kent, Marshall just yesterday, Cincinnati and Ohio U. just now," Ramsey said.

Other schools are showing heavy interest but want to wait until they see Ramsey on the field.

"I am hearing from a lot of schools, but they all want to see the first two games of the year since I missed all of last year," Ramsey said.

Ramsey stands in at 6-0, 210 pounds and clocked a 40 time of 4.5 at OSU camp. He has looked good on film as both a linebacker and running back and says he will be lining up at running back primarily this season.

"I am being recruited as an RB, LB and an athlete," he said. "I would prefer to be a running back but I will play anywhere."

"I drilled as a running back at Ohio State."

What is the interest level of OSU?

"They are talking about asking me to games," Ramsey said.

Ramsey's summer camp tour is likely not over.

"As far as what else I may do this summer is I may go to Miami (Oh). and maybe Akron next month," he said. "Akron wants me to come to their camp before they offer."

Ramsey is rated as one of the top 100 prospects in the state of Ohio by Ohio High magazine. He broke his ankle in the third play of a scrimmage before the 2004 season.

Just wondering is this guy more of a power back, or a quick agile back. I think more of power back would be better to complement our RB core because MO Wells is a quick, fast RB and C. Wells can do it all so all we need is the power and we will have a perfect group.

Boy what is you talking about...

C. Wells is a monster truck in the backfield... Watch some videos, would you?

Hah, we need another power back...
How about you read the post and understand it before you talk. Chris Wells has great speed and cutback ability to complement his power so he can do it all and that makes him an all-around back (like I said before). I just said that we need more of a power back to complement him and Mo Wells. So pretty much the last sentence of your post said the exact thing i said in mine.

I hope Ramsey can join this OSU class as a 2nd RB this year. IF we take another one I want it to be Ramsey. He has experience at Fullback also so that's a plus. I kind of have doubts that we take a second back though. With the '07 class coming up. Glad to see the staff is taking a look at him still. I hope he shows well in his first few games.

i think we'll offer ramsey after his first couple of games, he would be recruited alot more if he didnt get hurt last year, he has great size for a running back and i think we will probably take another back this year

IF another back is brought in this class, I would reather see a true fullback. Every other year is a pretty good target for a FB. Get someone in while Dionte is a junior, either as a backup or to redshirt. Would be a soph. or RS freshman when Dionte graduates.

The 07 class of tailbacks looks pretty good for OSU, with Torrence an all-around player, Stephens from Texas is a stud tailback, Mabin from Nordonia, and Herron from WGH.

He definitely passes the look test. At 5'11", 211 lbs, 4.5 speed, He could develop into a good back! His senior year will shed light on what he is capable of doing. Hope he gets his offer.

Independence
Independence will open its 30th season of football Friday against visiting Beechcroft, which won last year's meeting 49-2.

"We had 30 freshmen and started seven in that first game last year," said Jones, whose program is a combined 182-99-4 since beginning in 1976. "We have 61 on the roster (this year), not counting freshmen, with 19 returning letterwinners.

"Right off the bat, we're going to eliminate mistakes because the youth we had last year is a year older. This is a closer group of kids that I've had in a while."

Ramsey, a senior tailback, is the chief offensive threat. He missed all of last season with a broken ankle, which he suffered in the first scrimmage and had repaired surgically. He started as a freshman and sophomore at defensive end.

"He'll see a lot of action," Jones said. "He's 6-1 and a solid 223 pounds. He also runs a 4.4 in the 40. It's not (2004 graduate and Ohio State sophomore) Erik Haw speed (4.21 his senior year), but we'll take it. The ankle is treating him fine, and he's got six offers from (Division I colleges)."

Ramsey -- who according to Jones is being recruited by Akron, Cincinnati, Miami University, Ohio State and Toledo -- was slated to be the featured back last year as a junior. After his injury, 2005-graduate Brandon Morton, who never had a carry in a varsity game before last season, led the area in rushing with 1,894 yards and scoring 19 touchdowns. Still, Independence suffering it first losing season since 1997.

"Independence has been a running team by tradition," Jones said. "That's the history of the school. We don't care if you know we're coming, we're still coming. You still have to stop us. We'll throw the ball, don't get me wrong, but we are a running team."
