'06 OH RB Lance Smith (Wisconsin signee, transfer to Memphis)

Nope, you're both wrong.

From what I understand there are no travel restrictions on Smith imposed by the court and the idea of the suspension was to punish Smith while allowing him to still focus fully on academics.

Day 1 wrap-up: Wisconsin's Smith suspended
July 24, 2008
Posted by ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg

CHICAGO -- The first day of the Big Ten media meetings is in the books. Before seeing daylight for the first time since 7 a.m., I've got a couple of items. First, the day's biggest news came well after the coaches' interview sessions, as Wisconsin announced the suspension of junior running back Lance Smith.

Smith, as you might remember, was prohibited from playing in away games last season after being arrested and charged with battery of his girlfriend.

"It has come to my attention that Lance has failed to meet certain requirements relating to the first-offender program he was placed in last fall," Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema said in a statement.

Wisconsin didn't release any more information about Smith, citing FERPA.

Its my understanding that the first time offender program he failed was run by the state, not the school. Mr Smith my indeed end up at another school but from the sounds of it, the state of Wisconsin might require a bit of his time first.

The fact BB is now "suspending" him will be all the more transparent if Smith does indeed go to jail.

Yep, and the same coach who tried to get that waived.

Not to be lost in all this is the legal issues stem from this guy beating on his girlfriend. Hopefully he's tossing salads this fall, not finding another school that will let him in.

Ex-Howland standout considers transfer to YSU

Published:Tuesday, August 12, 2008

YOUNGSTOWN ? Whether or not Youngstown State will add another running back to its roster is still a big question mark, says coach Jon Heacock.

Lance Smith, who played high school football at Howland and has spent the past two seasons at the University of Wisconsin, is considering joining the Penguins.

Smith was recently released by the Badgers after being suspended from the team. He was charged with battery and disorderly conduct, which resulted from an altercation between Smith and his girlfriend in July 2007.
