'06 OH WR Josh Chichester (Louisville signee)

why does it always seem we lose a recruit or two in the last week before signing day to academics. Three years ago it was Dareus Hiley, two years ago Dajuan Morgan and Miles Williams, last year Freddie Lenix, and now Chichester and maybe more. If academics were that much of a problem you think it would be taken care before the last week till NLOID.

Who would "take care" of it before NLOID? The kid never had an official offer apparently - so there's not much else the staff could take care of . They cannot comment in any way (+ or -) about the prospects until they have signed letters of intent. The problem is that we fall victim to believing info that is portrayed as accurate by recruiting services who derive most of their info from the kids themselves or HS coaches. Not much OSU can do.

by "taking care of it before NLOID" I meant the academic advisors/guidance counselors at Chichester's school. If there is academic issues, isn't it there job to tell the student of a potential problem and try to work with them to get their academic house in order so they can possibly attend a Ohio State. anyway, if Josh didn't have a solid offer the whole argument is a moot point. Also, I agree it is "better to weed them out" than go through the whole process to lose the recruit to grades anyway.

Agree with you on both points Patrick - You would have hoped that his acedemic advisors would be pointing him in the right direction, particularly in his first couple years when college seems a long way away & no need to worry about grades. That said, the advisors can only do so much, and the kids need to take some responsibility themselves.

Too bad & good luck to Josh.

Not sure what you mean by removing Buckeye leaf icon. I am new to the board. Did I do something wrong? :( If so, I apologize tremendously.:oh: :io: :oh: :io: :oh: :io: :oh: :io: :oh: :io:

On the main recruiting forum page, each of our verbals has a

in the column next to his thread title. Only our verbals have them.

I wonder if this is a big misunderstanding (no offer), or if it is the staff cooling off on a kid who they offered earlier...OR it could have been a conditional offer if he made grades, and it might appear he isn't going to make grades so the staff is going in a different direction...

As has been stated before, the coaches cannot talk about prospect so we have no idea what the real story is...

I liked the kids height and athletic ability... tough to find 6-8 receivers... imo this is too bad for both parties involved...

grad has explained it about as clearly and simply as he could...Josh won't make it past admissions. There is no "misunderstanding" here.

Pretty sure it's been covered one of the recruiting threads, last year as I remember, but aren't ALL OSU offers contingent upon qualifying through the NCAA clearinghouse AND tOSU admissions?

Presumably Tressel's staff has spoken with the counselors at the recruit's HS to see if there's a snowball's chance that they won't have the grades. If it's close, then the transcripts, GPAs, and test scores are given to OSU admissions. I remember saying that the Big Ten and Ivy leagues are the most stringent in admissions.

Sorry that Josh won't be a Buckeye, don't believe that OSU takes partial qualifiers (Michigan State and Nebraska are the best here), or non-qualifiers unless they are can't miss studds (whatever that means). Like all the posters here, wish him well in continuing his education. He would have been a good addition to give us the 'tower' as a receiver, plus as a contributor to the next 2-3 years of NCAA championships in basketball.
