so, i'm guessing he would come in on a football scholarship? then play baskeball after the season. is that the case? just curious as to whether he'd play football his freshman year or not.
Honestly, I don't know what the 'rules' are according to the NCAA regarding this...I am assuming he is accepting a football scholarship since it was his football coach that made the announcement.

My understanding is that if he even just practices with the football team, his scholarship is against the football 85, even if he played basketball full-time later that season. If he didn't join the football team his freshman year and then played only b-ball, the scholly for that year should then go against the b-ball quota. But as soon as he gets involved with football, the scholly transfers...

I don't have a link to this because it was posted directly from Cox to local talk show host Lance McCallister's blog page. (www.lance1360homer.com)

Josh Chichester will make his formal college commitment on Friday July 1st at 1:00 p.m. in the Lakota West Library. His final five choices in alphabetical order are Illinois, Louisville, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State. He spent camp days at Michigan and Ohio State. He has informally visited the other schools. Josh is regarded as one of top three wide receivers in the state and has many offers in both football and basketball. He is also listed as one of the top 20 basketball prospects in the state of Ohio. All schools that have offered Josh a scholarship have also given him the option of playing both sports at their respective schools.

Honor&Glory,
Any feel for which way he's leaning?
Moose
Everything I have heard people talk about around here is that he has been an Illinois lean for sometime...but, Milli makes a good point...the fact that he is giving his verbal tomorrow tells me that OSU was deeply in the mix and he wanted to wait until after OSU camp to announce...

I am guessing Illinois but I would not be shocked if it were Ohio State....anybody else out of those five and I would have seizure.

OK, let's compare both football and basketball programs at IU and OSU:

Football: You've got to be kidding. OSU is he clear winner.

Basketball: Right now, Illinois, but we did hand them their only regular season loss last year, and with Matta now here and his stunning recruiting ability, we will have the edge for sure from here out.

The timing of his announcement is all too "coincidental"...it has to be OSU.

to look at both sides:

ill: great bb program. zook is putting togethera great recruiting class and is a very good recruiter in general. while i have nothing tangible to base this on, just going by interviews and such, it seemed ill showed him more attention than osu.

osu: one of the best incoming bb classes of all time. a program with a coach that is building great momentum. top fb program every year. looking at intangibles, chichester camps at osu last weekend. he has always been indeterminant an open ended about his recruitment. all of a sudden he sets an announcement time/date.

as an aside. this is just my own little thought, but i would think ifhe was going to commit to ill, he wouldnt be setting up an announcement like this. he would probably call and commit. i tend to think its osu, but illinois wouldnt surprise me in the least.

i got to interview Josh when the Flyers were on his radar for basketball and he would always speak highly of tOSU (before Illinois was firmly in the picture). that being said, i agree with all the points. all the signs seem to be pointing towards tOSU, especially since he just got a football offer.

Thats pretty much what I've heard as well...although I wasn't aware that OSU had offered, so that might change things. The timing of it (and the fact that he's having a press conference) points to OSU, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Either way, I'm happy that yet another West guy is going to play big-time D1 football!

the only thing is that illinois basketball and football really odnt have anything to work with. illinois lost all of its basketball players either to the draft or graduation. if he wants immediate playing time, espcially with our basketball recruiting class for next year, he will probably pick illinois.
