'06 OH WR/TE Jeff Cumberland (Illinois signee)

everyone should keep in mind the new APR system. With more casualties lately (Skeete, Maupin, etc), our score can't be stellar (not sure if it is going to be passing or not). The staff isn't being mean by being stingy about grades, their trying to maintain their full stock of scholarships that can be taken away if their team has too many academic trouble.

While I agree that keeping the APR up is a vital thing for the future of the Buckeye football program I am forced to wonder about the actual standards being imposed on these kids. There are instances wherein a young man has clearly expressed an interest in playing for tOSU but we hear that grades (and only grades) are the one thing keeping the Staff from green-lighting that enthusiasm - granting a scholarship. We then hear that this same individual has gone on the other pastures.

What concerns me is that the pastures to which these kids seem to turn do not - on their face - have diminished academic requirements relative to the core student body at The Ohio State University. In some instances the other pasture may include a college with academics acknowledged as being as tough or tougher than those at Ohio State.

I am thrilled with the overall quality of the kids Tressel atracts to our program (Cumberland included), and with the quality of those taken on scholarship. However, I wonder if the academic clearing-house issues, specifically the internal review, is too stringent.

How much leeway does JT have in these matters?

I checked out Cumberland again this weekend, and this time he was equally impressive on defense as he was on offense, I really don't think Ohio St could go wrong either way. as long as he gets the grades.
He saw double coverage all night.

We will not bash kids on this site.

I can't understand the vast judgments on someone's character based on an attempted dunk after a TD nor do I wish to discuss it in this thread.

Take it somewhere else.
