'06 Ohio OL (Split and Merged)

i would think that a scholarship would be more likely to be offered to a kid who

1. showed alot of interest in each school by attending as many junior days as possible.

2. took the time to go on alot of visits to schools.

3. had a coach who had connections to college coaches and got the kids films all sent out early and knew how to show case a kid with the proper techniques to edit highlight film.

4. and by not stating that you had a favorite team or that its between 2 schools.

just my thoughts.....

Yes.. but like your post started out "I would think".

That's not how it works, maybe later on down the road that's how it works, but this is month 2 of this year's recruiting.... it doesn't work that way yet. We have 10 months to convince kids why Ohio State is where they should go, just because they don't show interest in us now doesn't mean they won't later.

There is a lot of time for a coach to mess up, or a player to land a team into an NCAA investigation between now and next February..

Well a kid recieve offers on how well they think he plays the game , his size, his academics. These are the three majors not how much intrest is shown in Feb. If i am correct Brown and his father clearly says Ohio State is the team to beat. But that didnt scare the other teams away so thats not the reason other athletes didnt get offers. But maybe Brown fits what they need. Each kid can only take one schollie any way as long as he takes osu schollie who cares.

Just wondering, but is Conner being recruited as a OT or OG? We seem, to me, to be stacked at OT if Brown joins us. The future depth as I see it:

Boone - Rehring
Person - Boren
Cordle - Skinner?
Mitchum - Smith?
Brown - Barton

Skinner at Center? But we seem reeeeeal thin there and at OG. Just trying for some feedback, thanks.

Conner Smith seems like the only lock as his dad played at OSU.
Not too excited about this "only offer who we will give scholarships to" practice. Osu should have 6 OL scholarship offers out at this point, but they only have 3 or 4, depeding on where JB Walton will play. Guys like Lee Tilley don't get an offer but might be needed in the class later on.

So if tOSU threw out 6-8 quick offers and the bottom 3 prospects, although good players but still were evaluated below the others, accepted right way, what then? Do you just cross off the higher rated guys and take what you can get?

It is early...too early to offer everyone especially when the coaches are more than likely using the "you are our top priority" message. By the time camp rolls around, some of these others may get their offer, but by then, the staff will have a good idea where these early graduates are heading.

Smith is being recruited as a guard...merging this with the other OL thread.

Well, I only said 6, not 8. But there's 6 guys out there that are all equal in terms of talent and potential. Glad to see that Sam Young got an offer. Still like Palmer and Tilley from Ohio.

obviously the coaches feel that there are 3 guys above the rest in terms of talent and potnetial.

I thought I'd bring this thread back from the abyss now that one of our top OL recruits (Boren) has committed to Michigan and there are supposedly some questions about Tilley. With the amount of top-notch Ohio talent at OL this year, I want to keep an eye specifically on our Ohio guys. Based on this thread, here are the top Ohio OL and where we stand:

1. Aaron Brown (high interest in OSU)
2. Justin Boren (offered) Michigan commit
3. Conner Smith (offered)
4. Lee Tilley (problems?)
5. Ryan Palmer (OSU leads, waiting for offer)
6. Bryant Browning (OSU leads)
7. Bill Nagy (med interest)
8. Chris Meenan (OSU fan, top OL at State College NIKE camp)
9. Chad Schofield (OSU fan, Pitt leads)
10. D.J. Burris (OSU leads)

Now this might not be the exact order of how they're ranked by all the gurus, but it gives us a real good idea of who our top in-state OL talent is and where we currently stand with them. Hopefully most, if not all, of our 5-6 OL recruits will come from this list (Boren being the sole exception).

Mili - you can add the following two players to your list:

11. Jake Ballard (being recruited as a TE, OL, DL, but likely ends up at OT; he loves Ohio State, and might get offered at camp.
12. Clark Crum - big (6'7", 280) and athletic; a sleeper whose stock is rising.

I doubt that Browning gets an offer; maybe if Ginn, Sr. lobbies real hard....

According to a premium article over at Bucknuts, Tilley has crossed OSU off his list (down to 12 schools). He is not going to camp and wouldn't put OSU on the list even if offered. His mom says she wouldn't let her little bou go to OSU with the off the filed problems they are having.

There you go again, Mili, confusing everybody with the facts.

You've nailed it IMHO on how JT is approaching his needs on the O-line. There are 10 or 11 really good ones in state and he's going to offer them in order of their potential value to the team. He won't offer 6-8 of them all at once for fear of landing the lower eschelon first.

If the staff hasn't offered Tilley, there's surely a good reason. They know him and have invited him to camp -- that's not exactly a slap in the face. If he and his Mom decide against attending because of bruised egos, so be it.

There's ample talent out there and I'm confident JT will get the best available kids. Period.

That is a solid list of OL prospects right here in Ohio. I especially like Ballard and Crum. Add to that mix some decent OOS talent like Hurt, Deas and Walton and I think we are going to be just fine without Boren and Tilley. The staff is obviously comfortable with where they are with the other OL and OOS lineman to not offer Tilley at this point.

LJB - I agree with you about Browning...I just don't think he is athletic enough at this point. If he is able to shed some weight and have a solid senior season, he still has a shot at an offer at camp.

If we can land Brown and Smith in this OL class the rest is gravy in my opinion. The one kid who I like a lot is Ryan Palmer...very good size and can run.
