Jason Pinkston Profile
Despite the fact that he has garnered five offers and his name has become quite popular among internet recruiting fans, Baldwin (Pa.) defensive lineman Jason Pinkston has only scratched the surface. Most fans are unaware that Pinkston only has one full year as a defensive starter under his belt.
“My sophomore season I played tight end,” Pinkston said. “My junior season, I played offensive and defensive line, and I had a good year, and that’s when all the interest started coming.”
It started and hasn’t stopped for the 6-foot-5, 275-pound standout. Pinkston has received written scholarships from programs such as Maryland, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Iowa, and Akron. Big-time programs are beginning to take note, as well.
“I’m supposed to go to Notre Dame (4/2),” Pinkston said. “I think Oklahoma and Michigan may offer soon.”
One program that has not shown a lot of interest in Pinkston, despite other reports, is Penn State.
“They’re not recruiting me that hard,” Pinkston said.
One program that has really put on the full-court press according to Pinkston is Pittsburgh. The Panthers new head coach, Dave Wannstedt, is a former Baldwin football player himself.
“When he comes to the school its like 8,000 teachers want to talk to him and get autographs, and pictures,” Pinkston said. “When he’s here I don’t get to speak to him that much.”
The pressure appears to have worked as Pinkston named Pittsburgh his leader.
“I went to the junior day there it was a lot of fun,” Pinkston said. “We went on a tour around the campus, we went to the hoops game, I would say they’re my favorite right now.”
But, are the Panthers alone?
“I went to Maryland’s junior day and it was pretty good,” Pinkston said. “I’d have to say they are up there near the top also.”
In his first season as a defensive starter Pinkston tallied 100 tackles, seven sacks, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. He was named first-team All-Conference, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fabulous 22 South, and Tribune-Review Terrific 25.
