'06 PA LB Dorin Dickerson (Pitt signee)

Boy George could be the coach of Pitt and he'll still go there. I asked about this after the Ohio game, there is other factors that led him to Pitt other than playing for a winner. He's very under rated IMO on the two recruiting services.

I concur, on both points. He is headed to Pitt and he is vastly under rated.

I have seen him several times, and I am biased becase I do not get to see a lot of eastern PA football, but the kid takes over games on offesne and other teams O have to scheme to avoid him.... If he is #2 it is not by a lot. I know McCoy and Devlin deserve a lot of hype, but Dickerson is the real deal.

Thomas Jefferson put on a complete beat down last night as they shut down Dorin and the rest of the West Allegheny Indians as the rolled to a 35-0 win. Dorin was hed to 50 yards. TJ completley focused on him everywhere he lined up. Still wish there was a shot at this kid, going to be a star.

Pitt football recruits Dorin Dickerson of West Allegheny and John Malecki of Franklin Regional were injured in separate incidents during practices for Saturday's Big 33 Football Classic in Hershey.

Malecki has returned home and will not play, while Dickerson is questionable for the Pennsylvania-Ohio all-star game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hersheypark Stadium.

"I would have played, if it was up to me," said Malecki, a two-way lineman from Franklin Regional. "The Big 33 coaches didn't want me to play, and Pitt coaches didn't want me playing, either. They're the bosses."

Malecki re-injured his left shoulder, which required surgery in December, on Saturday during pass-blocking drills. Malecki suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder in the WPIAL quarterfinals against Hampton and aggravated it against Selinsgrove in the PIAA quarterfinals.

Malecki plans to have an MRI on the shoulder this week.

"It just flipped out of the socket," Malecki said. "We're hoping it's just a hyperextension or a stretch or something. It doesn't feel like it torn, like it did before. It's sore now. Before, it was just pain. This isn't even as close as it was before."

Dickerson, a multi-purpose back, suffered what his mother described Monday as a "lower leg injury." Pam Dickerson said her son was being treated with ice and was questionable for the Big 33 game.
"He seemed in good spirits," Pam Dickerson said. "He's so strong. He feels he'll be able to play Saturday. Right now, all we know is it's not that serious."

Dorin did not play in the game.

Dorin Dickerson and his father separately spoke to Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt last week about playing time. Wannstedt disclosed that information following the Panthers' convincing win Saturday over Toledo.
Wannstedt's statement concerning Dickerson playing, and scoring a touchdown on a 14-yard reverse, showed how close he was to redshirting the West Allegheny product.

It may seem silly to play Dickerson during a blowout in Pitt's fifth game of the year, but the right decision was made.

Dickerson can make a difference this year.

"For some of these young kids, they might not play as much but they're getting some live game time, getting through all those travel things, butterfly things, preparation things and understanding getting ready to play. That's not to say that next year or a year after that they won't need a redshirt."

Not in Dickerson's case. He's simply to talented to redshirt.

Has the running game convinced you Dickerson can't help at tailback? Other than Derek Kinder, have the receivers dominated?

Dickerson can help Pitt at both places. He can help on special teams. He's the type of player that Pitt needs on the field for any chance against Louisville or West Virginia.

And, while his role may not yet be defined -- even Dickerson isn't sure where he'll practice from week to week, his versatility to too great to be on the bench.

"He's doing a little of both," Wannstedt said. "Right now, he's third on the depth chart at split end, so it's not like he's running second team. Because of where he's at, we can use him on special teams. I think it will be a week-to-week thing. He'll do a little of both."

n Andrew Sweat's first-half performance against West Mifflin Friday night was the best defensive display I've ever seen on the high school level.

Ohio State and Penn State are after Sweat, a junior at Trinity. If Pitt's smart and truly wants to seal off Western Pennsylvania, Sweat is a must-have. Remember H.B. Blades are Clint Session are seniors.

n Trying to figure out the local high school football season is tougher than memorizing the dictionary. And that means either the football is better than expected or worse than originally thought. Yep, it's that tough to figure out.

This much is certain, Trinity and Beth-Center are legit playoff contenders. Both appear poised for deep postseason runs.

n There's a belief that Penn State quarterback Anthony Morelli would have been more prepared for college football with a redshirt year. The Nittany Lions are good enough to win seven to nine games this year and next with Morelli. They'll be better when a more accurate, heady quarterback takes over.
