Thanks, HB. It is always difficult to get a read on players so early in the process. In January of 2003, we were all high on Brandon Braxton, Ray Williams, Delbert Ferguson, and Fred Davis as big-time prospects for the 2004 recruiting class; but Braxton underperformed as a senior, Williams had legal and academic issues, Ferguson suffered a serious leg injury, and Davis..... On the other hand, we hadn't even heard of future Buckeyes like Devon Lyons, Nader Abdallah, Nick Patterson, and Vernon Gholston.

Certainly Chris Wells (Akron Garfield) and a QB (Hartline, Schlichter, Davis, Hakes, etc.) will be near the top of the Buckeye's list for 2006; Justin Boren (Pickerington North) seems to be the hot name at OL, and Rob Rose (Glenville) and Aaron Brown (Cincinnati Princeton) are physical specimens on the DL; LB's Ross Homan (Coldwater) and Thaddeus Gibson (Euclid) are receiving a lot of attention; Pittsburgh Woodland Hills' Wesley Lyons (Devon's "little" brother) has the size (6'6") to be a top WR, and his teammate Darrin Walls is a highly-regarded DB prospect; Mission Viejo's TE Konrad Reuland (with Ohio ties) and FB Chane Moline will generate plenty of interest.

National recruits with some interest in the Buckeyes include NJ safety Myron Rolle, Pennsylvania RB LeSean McCoy, California RB Stafon Johnson; and Maryland LB Akeem Hebron; plus there will be the usual contingent of Florida kids who will give the Bucks a look.

Right now, Rivals is listing only four 2006 prospects with Buckeye offers (Wells, Boren, Rolle, and St. Joe's David Lighty, who seems destined to be a basketball player in college). We'll know a lot more after the junior days, when some other early offers come out, and especially after summer camp. Stay tuned to Buckeye Planet!

Jake Ballard from Springboro will probably be the hottest prospect in Dayton area next year. Big, tall kid you moves well. Playing TE/DE. Not tough enough at point of attack for defense. 250 lb TE who runs very well. Talked with Duane Long about him and he feels Ballard with be a O tackle. Needs much more strength to do that, but I was impressed with him more last year than Alex Daniels.

Travis has an offer from Iowa which is his only official offer to date. However, Ohio State is his leader over Virginia Tech, Michigan, Maryland and USC. He has not contacted any of his top five yet but receives plenty of mail from all of them. He likes that tOSU is known for putting RBs in the NFL. Travis holds a 2.5 GPA and a 1010 on the SAT.

Travis has rescinded his top five due to an increase in attention from new schools. He will try to narrow things down by the end of summer. Travis does say tOSU has been in constant contact and has been to his school twice. He is expecting an offer soon.

Travis McBride has some impressive offers and is another bluechipper from the state of Pennsylvania.

Travis McBride is one of many talented backs from the state of Pennsylvania this season. McBride, 6-1 and 195 pounds, is from McKeesport (Pa.) High School and last season as a junior he rushed for over 1,200 yards and 19 touchdowns.

“I think I am a pretty complete back,” said McBride. “I am a very good runner with good vision. I can block well and catch the ball out of the backfield.”

According to McBride he now has scholarship offers from Iowa, Miami (Ohio), West Virginia, Rutgers and N.C. State.

“I am pretty open,” said McBride. “I like Auburn, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and a few others.

“Auburn has a running game that I absolutely love.

“Iowa is a program that is so consistent and getting better and better each year.

“Michigan is a team that I have just always liked… since I was a kid.

”Ohio State is a team known for putting running back in the NFL.

“Penn State and Pittsburgh are the home teams for me. I have always liked them both and we’ll see what happens if they end up offering me a scholarship.

”Tennessee, like Auburn, is a team that has a great running game.” McBride says at this point he will not camp anywhere this summer, rather continue to train for his senior season and perhaps make some unofficial visits to come college campuses. ”I am not sure where and who I want to see this summer. As far as working out I just want to get bigger, faster and stronger and get better at everything and I plan on working hard.”

I love this guys attitude to be a buckeye but I don't think it's going to happen. We already have Wells and next year we have very good chances with Jordan Mabin, Herron, Torrence, Saine, and Stephens from texas.
