Ben Alexander committed to Coach (Mack) Brown and Coach (Oscar) Giles. "I had a meeting with Coach Brown and Coach Giles and I committed to them both," he said. "Prior to the camp I had received a letter from Coach Brown saying that he would like to offer me, but would like to wait until the camp so that he can evaluate me in person." Brown offered Alexander on Saturday and Ben committed to Texas on Wednesday following the camp.

Another UT Coach who played a large role in the recruitment of Alexander is new Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach Gene Chizik. "Coach Chizik came to my school and visited me and talked with my coach," Alexander said. "He seemed to be a great guy and showed a lot of interest in me."

Alexander had a great time while camping at Texas. "The camp went great," he said. "I got to play inside the indoor facility and on the practice fields, as well as the game field. I really like Mad Dog as well. He's a great coach with a great background and I'm looking forward to working with him."

Why Texas? "Texas has great academics," he said. "They are great athletically as well and compete for conference and national championships. I can contribute early and I fit in good with the players and coaches."

The South Carolina standout is firm in his decision. "I'm solidly committed to Texas," he said. "Texas is the school for me."

Alexander was receiving attention from schools up and down the East Coast. At the time of his commitment, he had totaled 13 offers, from Texas, Florida, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio State, Clemson, Duke, Florida State and Georgia Tech.

The DT's only scheduled camp destination this summer was Texas. "Texas was the only school I was camping at," he said. "I'm done camping for the summer and I'm ready to focus on the upcoming season." He went on to say that Texas will be the only school that will receive an official visit from him.

Last season, Alexander racked up 77 tackles with 30 of those being for a loss. He also had 7 sacks. Ben has a few goals for this season. "This season I want to help lead my team to a state championship," he said. "As for personal goals, I just want to be the best player I can be."
