Top RB Prospect Out For The Season

By Phil Kornblut
Clemson and USC target RB Caleb King (6-1 207) of Atlanta has seen his season come to an end with a leg injury according to a report Monday night by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

By CARROLL ROGERS
Greater Atlanta Christian running back and top national prospect Caleb King is likely out for the season with a right leg injury he suffered in Friday night's win against Avondale, coach Jimmy Chupp said Monday.
"We're very concerned about him," Chupp said. "He'll probably miss the rest of the season."
Chupp said King had an MRI on Monday and was scheduled for a CT scan Tuesday. He declined to be specific about the exact nature of the injury, though he said earlier in the day that doctors had ruled out a tear of the medial or anterior cruciate ligament in King's knee.
"It may be season-ending, but not career-threatening," Chupp said.
King was hurt during the second quarter of Friday night's game on a pass play in which he came out of the backfield on a crossing route. He took a helmet to the lower leg on the play, Chupp said.
King was able to walk on his leg on the sideline, which seemed to allay fears. But King spent the weekend on crutches, Chupp said, and was still in pain on Monday.
Neither Caleb King nor his brother Andre King, a volunteer running backs coach for GAC, attended practice Monday. They could not be reached for comment.
"I talked to the doctor and to Caleb and to Andre," Chupp said. "Caleb and Andre are upbeat, but we are very concerned."
King will likely see his senior season at GAC end only seven games after his transfer from Parkview. He would not be expected back in time for any playoff games.
King rushed for 2,768 yards at Parkview last year, the best rushing total by a junior in Georgia high school history. This summer he transferred to GAC, for academic reasons, according to his family.
King is leading Gwinnett County with 939 yards rushing and is tied for the lead with 13 touchdowns. He hasn't missed a game in the three years he's played in Gwinnett since he transferred to Parkview from Columbia High after his freshman season.
The question now becomes how this affects his college recruiting. King is one of the most highly recruited prospects in the nation ? he's rated the No. 3 running back in the country by Scout.com and No. 1 by Rivals.com ? and he is still uncommitted.
King, who is being recruited by Georgia, Auburn, LSU and others, hasn't said where he will make his five official visits.
Also in doubt is King's availability to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, a national senior all-star team he was named to last week. The game is on Jan. 6.
GAC (6-1) has three regular season games left, including Friday night against Wesleyan.
A significant playoff run gets even tougher for the sixth-ranked Spartans who were already going without a Division I prospect at center; T-Bob Hebert has missed the last two games with a shoulder injury.
