'07 OH LB/S Sidney Glover (West Virginia signee)

Glover looked solid on both sides of the ball against JFK. He scored 3 total TDs (1 passing, 2 rushing) and he will only continue to get better. Glover, Herron, and Scrivens will do some damage in the backfield this season.

Warren Harding at Massillon
SITE Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, 7:30 p.m.
RECORDS Warren Harding 2-5, Massillon 7-0.
LAST WEEK St. Ignatius 24, Harding 6; Massillon 54, Woodrow Wilson 0.
LAST MEETING Harding won 15-12 last year. WHAT TO WATCH This Harding team is not a typical 2-5 team. Warren has lost to teams with a combined 27-8 record, and all of them are playoff contenders. Head coach Thom McDaniels is hoping his players begin to mature. Warren was in a position to compete better in four of those five losses, but failed to finish strong the second half. Raider TB Dan Herron (5-10, 188) is their best offensive player. “To this point in the season, he’s the best back we will have faced,” Massillon head coach Tom Stacy said. The Tigers have not tackled particularly well, and if that continues, this will be a concern. Massillon will rely on its front seven, specifically LBs Robert Morris and Paris McCall to bring Herron down. The Tiger interior defensive line will be in for a tough match against C Levi George (6-1, 288). McDaniels believes George is a Division I recruit. Massillon needs to mix its defenses, because QB Sidney Glover is good, but he can be confused. Containment is important. The Tiger offense will get starting QB Bobby Huth back. He has attempted 99 passes and not thrown an interception yet in his first season as the starter. Huth sat out last week because of a concussion. The key for the Tigers is RB-DB Brian Gamble. McDaniels said Gamble reminds him of former McKinley standout Mike Doss. Gamble is a two-way player, a big hitter on both sides, and he knows how to finish runs. Massillon has to protect Huth, because Harding can be beaten deep. Massillon moved slightly ahead of McKinley in the Associated Press poll to No. 3. A win should lock Massillon into a playoff spot and possibly a home game.

For many excited fans, high the football season starts in late August or early September. For many players, lasts all year long. That's the philosophy adopted by Sidney Glover, one of the latest prospects roaming the halls of Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio who is one of the top prospects in the state for 2007. Glover, or 'The Glove' as some like to call him, is a 6'0, 205 pound athlete whose hard-nosed style of play has got him some nice early looks from Division 1A programs. As a junior in 05, he did a little bit of everything for the Raiders. Rotating as an option style quarterback, Glover completed 27 of 46 passes for 367 yards and 6 touchdowns, adding 418 yards and 4 touchdowns on 80 carries. Defensively, he totaled 58 tackles (33 solo) and 1 interception from the strong safety position, with a few of his stops resulting in early exits for opposing players. He also added a blocked punt on special teams. Glover's style of play is reminiscent of a former great Raider. 'My boy Prescott Burgess,' Glover replied when asked who he compares his game to. 'He's like an older brother to me.'

This off-season has been a busy one for Glover. 'I've been working out, running indoor track, and watching film,' Glover said when asked about the things that he's been doing this off-season. His efforts in the weight room have produced some great results. In a recent test, Glover did 17 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench, a max of 350 pounds. He also cleaned 280 pounds, the highest on his team, and squatted 445 pounds.

Even though he has yet to receive any offers, Glover, who will play strong safety at the next level, is already receiving interest from most of the Big Ten as well as several other quality programs. 'I like Michigan, Penn State, Indiana, and Syracuse,' Glover said when asked about his top schools that have showed interest in him. 'I like Ohio State, but they haven't showed me as much interest as some of the other schools. I've sent them film recently, so hopefully I'll hear more from them soon.'

Glover knows that the sky is the limit for him as an individual, but he's not thinking too much about personal goals these days. Despite going 3-7 in 2005, he has set his goals extremely high for his senior season. 'I want to help my team win a state championship,' Glover said when asked about his goals for 2006. 'Last season left a bad taste in our mouths, but we've used that experience as motivation this off-season. We have enough talent to have a special team, but we have to continue working hard all year.' Even with the poor record last season, Glover doesn't want to change the attitude that he and his teammates finished the season with. 'We started out good, but we couldn't keep it together after that. We never gave up though. I think that we surprised a lot of people when we played Massillon as tough as we did. Next season, we need to play with that same intensity that we finished last season with, but we need to do that all year. It's going to be tough with the schedule that we play, but I'm up for the challenge.”

Only time will tell how well WGH will fare in 2006, but you can expect big things out of Glover this fall. He is one of the hardest hitters that you'll ever see at the high school level, a big time player who is destined for the NCAA. Where he'll go remains to be seen, but fans can expect to hear Glover's name a lot in recruiting news not only across the state of Ohio, but throughout the country.
