'07 OH QB Clay Belton (Miami of Ohio Signee)

Hey, I know this is a Buckeye site and all, but this Miami recruiting class is pretty damned good. 15 of 24 have offers from BCS schools (that's by far the highest % of all MAC schools). Most recruiting services have the class in the top 5 of non-BCS schools. Some of the offers these guys turned down are quite impressive.

QB Clay Belton: offered by K-State, Duke

RB Thomas Merriweather: offered by Louisville, Illinois, Indiana, K-State, Missouri, Colorado, Michigan State, Nebraska

WR Chris Givens: offered by Louisville and Michigan State

OL Brandon Brooks: decommitted from Wisconsin, also had offers from Boston College and Minnesota

LB Alex Kaufman: offered by North Carolina State, Minnesota, Northwestern

LB Mike Baker: offered by Nebraska, Wake Forest, and Duke

CB Brandon Stephens: offered by Pitt and Iowa

CB Deandre Gilmore: offered by Kansas State and Illinois

OXFORD ? If Miami University football coach Shane Montgomery were given three limited wishes, he might be tempted to spend all three on his quarterback situation.
Wish No. 1: to keep starting quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh healthy.

Miami coach: 'There is no change' as far as status of Miami's backup QB with team

OXFORD ? Quarterback Clay Belton was absent from practice Tuesday, Sept. 23, amid Internet rumors he was transferring away from Miami University, after which coach Shane Montgomery said, "As of right now, he's still on the team."
It appears something is transpiring between the RedHawks and Belton, the redshirt freshman from Clayton Northmont High School with huge expectations but little playing time.
Montgomery was asked following practice if Belton was transferring to another university.
"There is no change," Montgomery said. "He's on our team. We had a conversation today. It was in-house."
The Miami coach said he didn't know whether Belton would attend practice today.
"We had a conversation about some things," he repeated. "Everything we do is in-house. If something happens, we'll release it in a statement."

Northmont grad, former RedHawk Belton likely going to Maryland

For Clay Belton, one important decision will be followed by another.

One week after leaving Miami University, Belton is close to enrolling at the University of Maryland and continuing his football career with the Terrapins under head coach Ralph Friedgen.

?Maryland?s at the top of his list,? said Craig Belton II, Clay?s father, who added that his son continues to ?sniff around? for the best opportunity.

According to Maryland?s 2009-10 academic calendar, fall term classes on the College Park, Md., campus began on Monday, Aug. 31.

Belton, a 6-foot-5, 223-pound left-hander from Northmont High School, would sit out the 2009 season and have two seasons of eligibility remaining if he goes to Maryland.
