'08 CA S E.J. Woods (UCLA signee)

He is a guy that will help against the run, and track down the QB when blitzing much like Whitner did when he was here...

There was no film of his coverage, but watching him run the ball it shows he has great hip movement and very good speed...

I don't see any reason with the kid voicing his interest why we don't send an offer...I know you can't go off of Rivals ratings to offer someone but not very often do you see someone that will be ranked so high and show high interest in the school and not get the offer...

With comparing him to McCarthy I would say McCarthy is your coverage guy and Woods would be you run stopper guy...

No offense to McCarthy... but this D sorely needs a run stopping safety... Doss and Whitner werent the greatest with the ball in the air, but their impact on shutting down a running game more than made up for it... That is the one thing that stood out to me this past season...

We went from Doss to Allen to Whitner... to basically nobody capable of making an impact at the LOS... u cant stress enough how important a run stuffing safety is...

I like Woods better than McCarthy from what tape I've seen, but since Danny is from Ohio, he gets some extra points... I'll be happy with either of these two, and thrilled if we sneak both into this class..

I don't think bringing both in is out of the question...plus OSU just got in contact and maybe they haven't seen film, which could explain the no offer? But I do think if we bring both in, we take one less LB if we only have 15 schollies to hand out

tOSU just got film and are in the evaluation stage...As far as numbers I think that it is going to reach 18...

Good deal...we should know soon enough then. If we do indeed have 18 at the end(which I hope/think we will), then I think an offer to Woods is very likely.

It's funny because kids seem to want to wait till the Army AA game or NSD to commit to a school, but schools are starting to go with the first one to take it gets it. I am all for tossing two out there and saying first one to commit gets it. Works for Mac in Texas, he is getting close to full already and that means he can start evaluating next years juniors. Gives him a good head start.

# UCLA gained commitments from defensive lineman Datone Jones of Compton, Cal; receiver Kemonte Bateman of Los Angeles-Crenshaw, Call; defensive back Rahim Moore of Los Angeles-Dorsey, Cal; linebacker Uona Kaveinga of Lawndale-Leuzinger, Cal; running back Johnathan Franklin of Los Angeles-Dorsey, Cal; receiver/defensive back Antwon Moutra of Culver City, Cal; defensive back EJ Woods of Encino-Crespi, Cal; and defensive lineman Damien Holmes of Colton, Cal.

This is according to http://www.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/recruiting/recruiting.html , which usually is a pretty good site for accuracy. I'm sure there will be a more informative update soon.
