MarQueis Gray's early-season success as a Gophers wide receiver is only half the story
MarQueis Gray has the talent ? and, so far, the numbers ? to be an All-Big Ten receiver this season. But he should have an even bigger impact on the Gophers when and if he finally gets to play quarterback, his natural position.

MarQueis Gray has the talent a football team can build an offense around.
The problem for the University of Minnesota is that the 6-foot-5, 230-pound sophomore isn't ready to be the all-everything receiver or quarterback that he might be.
The Gophers are taking baby steps to develop him at quarterback, and they're not committing to him as a full-time wide receiver this season, though that could change after starter Troy Stoudermire's indefinite suspension Wednesday.
The Gophers' short-term fix is to play a more experienced quarterback in fifth-year senior Adam Weber while giving Gray as much as he can handle at receiver.
"As each week goes on, I feel more comfortable with myself and my ability to help the team get first downs and score," Gray said after he caught four passes for 98 yards and a touchdown in a 32-21 loss to Southern Cal last week.
