'08 MI WR Fred Smith (MSU signee, transfer)

At this point I wonder if we send an offer to Smith...

If so we are really casting a wide net, especially with Scott seemingly a lock to get an offer if grades/test score are adequate...

That would give us offers to Posey, Scott, Tate, Flyod, and a couple other big time recievers that we really arent in good standing with...

On a side nite, Michigan seems to really be attacking the state of Texas...

on your side note, I envy that. Seems ND and Michigan recognize that there's a ton of talent in Texas this year and that Texas can't take them all. Lots of good linemen in Texas this year. We all know about J.B., but there's more.

I think we're in good shape with Floyd and Tate, but by no means are they locks to OSU or anything so the net has to get wider. I think Smith is in the same category as Floyd and Tate just a little raw. Would be great to get him into camp to get a better look at him.

Yeah I agree, I just think at this point, it would be a little early for an offer. I could see his recruitment playing out the same way that Washington's did last year as to stay in heavy contact, but just follow the recruitment of Flyod and Tate and then see if Posey or Scott are ready to pull the trigger.

I know it has been mentioned, but I will give a scenario. If the staff feels Smith comes to camp and impresses enough for an offer. They tell Posey either take the offer or leave, and if he says no then offer Smith.

I expect us to take baldwin and stonum for sure and especially baldwin since he is our number 1 target at wr but we could take 3 wr's because we could lose arrington and manningham this year. Smith has great measureables though he has ran a 10.6 in the 100.

Heck, if I were Michigan, I would just bring him in as a DB.

No need to bring Stonum or Smith in as DB's, that's not their best position anyways IMO.

We landed a 5* stud CB out of California in Donovan Warren in this class, also locked up the definite #1 in-state player and probable #1 CB in the region (if not the nation) in the 2008 class in Boubacar Cissoko. Michigan is in on alot of DB's. The pair from Butler, NC and the pair from Fresno Edison, CA are both high on Michigan. As is Will "The Thrill" Hill. Michigan should pull in a pretty good DB haul this year, they are in on alot of kids.

Smith likes Michigan alot. Whether he ends up in Ann Arbor or not depends on how many WR's Michigan wants to take and who commits first.

So basically more underperforming DBs are on the way to replenish the departure of existing underperforming DBs. Sounds good to me

Warren and Boo-Boo are underperforming DB's? That's news to me. By all accounts Warren was the best CB in the practices and at the AA game down in San Antonio. Boubacar blew the doors off the building in San Antonio at the JR AA combine.

None of the CB's we've got on the roster we're as highly regarded as either of those kids. Morgan Trent is a converted WR, Charles Stewart was a 3* who has already made the move to safety, and Johnny Sears and Chris Richards were a pair of raw 3* RS freshman from California.

Hall performed pretty well in relation to his rating as a recruit out of high school. Hall was a 2-time All-B10 selection, a 1st team All-American, and is likely to be drafted in the 1st round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

I don't think our DB's have underperformed, I just think we've done a poor job recruiting DB's.
