Compton is a quick linebacker who has skyrocketed up the rankings after convincing scouts on the camp circuit. He moves well and shows great ball instincts on film. He is not the biggest linebacker physically, but plays big on the field. He is as good in pass coverage as he is against the run.

Scout Bio said:
Will Compton starred as a running back and safety last year for North County. In nine games he had 455 yards rushing on 64 attempts averaging 7.1 yards per carry while catching 51 passes for 855 yards for a 16.8 yard average. On defense he had 70 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and an interception; Compton benches 325 pounds, squats 390 and has a 30-inch vertical leap.

Compton reports a 3.7 core GPA and a 21 ACT.

Compton: "I can change direction quickly and move well sideline-to-sideline. I have great hitting ability and am fast I play very aggressive and like being a leader on the field.

"I want to work on my pass coverage and cover the running back one-on-one. I also want to work on dropping back in zones better."

By Greg Powers...recap of the recruiting process for Will. Says the schools on his list right now are Iowa, Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas but there is a chance he could consider OSU, ND or Alabama if they were to offer. Nebraska is still in the mix as well.

From the Nebraska site...has already had an Illinois coach visit his home and says the Illini like him as a MLB while OSU and Arkansas are talking RB/FB. Acknowledges he would prefer defense and says he is still committed to Nerbaska and will likely ride out the storm.

Looks like the idea of Will giving OSU a serious look has come and gone...

Often, Pelini said, it was his job to close the deal on defensive recruits.

"I feel that it's one of my strengths to be able to go into a home," he said. "One thing I think they know is that I'm going to be honest. I'm not going to try and sell something that isn't true. I'm going to lay it on the line and let them know how it is."

Linebacker Will Compton of Bonne Terre, Mo., met Friday at his school with Osborne, Nebraska's interim athletic director. Osborne may continue to help Pelini recruit away from campus until the coach's new staff is filled with nine assistants.

Compton plans to visit Missouri and Illinois this month and NU in January.

"I thought (Pelini) was their best option for a defensive recruit like myself," Compton said. "I think it's great. I know he's done a great job at LSU, and he's a defensive-minded coach."

Still, Compton, recruited by former defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove, remains hesitant.

"I was closest to Coach Cosgrove of any coach who recruited me," Compton said.

Levorson said he watched Pelini's press conference on television.

"I liked pretty much everything I heard," Levorson said.

North County LB Will Compton has been through a crazy recruitment having gone through the process and made a decision only to have it re-opened because of the coaching situation and eventual change at Nebraska, where he thought he would be spending the next four years of his life for sure earlier this year. So you can`t blame him for taking things slow and taking his time to make his final decision, exploring all of his options before signing on the dotted line in February.
" I am making an official visit to Iowa this weekend." said Compton. "They (Iowa) have been recruiting me a long time, and with having this weekend open after thinking i`d be visiting Nebraska, I decided i`d make the trip and give them a look."
In regards to Nebraska, are they still in the picture?
"Coach Osborne came in to visit me and it was crazy meeting a coaching legend face to face. It was really cool.Coach Pelini is coming to visit me Thursday the 6th for the first time. I told Coach Osborne that i`d probably visit sometime in Janurary if I visit." said Compton.
The teams who seem most likely to battle it out for Compton`s services at the moment appear to be the Illini and Mizzou. Compton visited Illinois a few weeks ago and will visit Mizzou on the 14th of December.
" I really enjoy Coach Zook and the Illini staff. My visit there was great and I hear from just about every Illini coach and a bunch of Illini players call and text me all the time. I`ve talked to all the Illini coaches on the phone and they all are recruiting me. Coach Zook calls my parents and has really tried to develop a relationship with them, so they might have a little edge at the moment."
"Mizzou is right there too although I really only hear from Coach Steck from Missouri. I am looking forward to my visit and the chance to get to know Coach Pinkel. I think how my relationship with Coach Pinkel develops will go a long way in my decision process. One of my best friends goes to Mizzou and I hear all the time from everyone that I should go to Mizzou. I just want to make sure that I feel comfortable where I go and that I connect with the Head Coach."
On talking to other recruits about their decisions and if it will influence where he might go?
" I talk to Josh Williams and I just talked to DJ Woods. We were talking about Missouri and I told him that he should go to Mizzou because their offense would be perfect for him. DJ told me that is why he is visiting Mizzou, because of the offense and who he`d get to play with. Josh and I talk about going to the same school together. He may make an unnoffical back to Nebraska around the same time if I make an official there in Jan. I use to talk to Blaine Gabbert a lot, but we haven`t talked really in a while.Last time I talked to him was asking him when he`d take his official to Mizzou." said Compton.
Will says that he`ll make his decision sometime around Christmas or early Janurary depending on when it feels right.
