Mount Vernon's Jones gets shot to play against the best
By KEVIN DEVANEY JR.
THE JOURNAL NEWS

(Original publication: June 19, 2007)
Mount Vernon basketball standout Kevin Jones will attend the prestigious NBA Top 100 Camp, which begins today at the University of Virginia.
The nation's top 100 high school incoming seniors will participate in the five-day camp, which was created 12 years ago by the NBA Players Association. Jones will partake in various clinics, drills and seminars, as well as play in daily scrimmages before NBA scouts.
"This is a great event and I'm really looking forward to playing in it," said Jones, a 6-foot-8 forward. "It will give me a chance to focus on what I need to get better at. I'll definitely see how far my game is coming along and how far I need to go to be at an elite level."

Jones, who scored 43 points in an IS8 playoff game last month, has a lengthy list of Division I scholarship offers.
Kentucky, Indiana, Louisville, Massachusetts, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, St. John's and Seton Hall offered during the season. This spring, he attracted UCLA, Ohio State, West Virginia and Miami.

I'm just now realizing (sadly) that I missed the Rumble in the Bronx. The Westchester Hawks have a huge stock of talent and the 'choz are always full of talent (mostly Rice HS).

IMO losing the talented senior guards from the team - esp. Coburn, Abney and Taylor - will make it harder for Jones while playing for his HS team. I always hate to support AAU play more than HS, but given the fact that MVHS is losing so many playmakers, Jones should really look to shine this summer and make a commitment before the detractors can criticize his HS season next year.
