Matta and Sampson...I'll take Matta also, but Sampson is an excellent coach, recruiter, and motivator.

Sampson's NCAA record while he was at Oklahoma was not very good. He might be a pretty good recruiter but I do not think that he is one of the better basketball coaches in the Country. When it comes to coaching, Thad it is so much better and so are a lad of other coaches.

If KK sticks around past his freshman year can we really offer more PT?

Maybe not more PT, but quality PT on the floor with much deeper talent... and high, high quality practice reps against a wide range of styles of play from BJ to KK to Wallace

I think it is very wishful thinking that KK is going to stay for two years. I hope that he does but I just don't see it after his play in Europe.

Recruiting scene: Peekskill's Mookie Jones and Mount Vernon's Kevin Jones will spend the next few weeks making their official visits to Division I schools and each hopes to make a decision before the start of the season. Mookie Jones spent last weekend at DePaul and was at Marquette the previous week. He'll be visiting Syracuse this weekend, Rutgers on Oct. 20 and St. John's on Oct. 27. Kevin Jones, a 6-foot-8 forward, has visits planned for Indiana, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

I don't know where you pulled that from. I have heard nothing of the sort. Do you have a source?

Nope. Brain-fart here. Was thinking about something else when I posted that, but seeing the post about WV, IU, Pitt, and UMass, I absent-mindedly ruled out the Buckeyes. Foolish, I know. My bad. :!

Dispatch

Kevin Jones, a 6-foot-8 forward who is the last player Ohio State is known to be recruiting for its 2008 men's basketball class, is visiting Indiana this weekend for "Hoosier Hysteria" and will follow with visits to West Virginia, Massachusetts and Pitt. The Mount Vernon, N.Y., standout visited OSU the weekend of Sept. 21 and is said to be interested in nearby schools he didn't officially visit, including Rutgers, Seton Hall and St. John's.
Jones' brother, Gerald, told Adam Zagoria, a reporter whose blog tracks Division I talent in the New York area, that Kevin will pare down his list after visiting Pitt on Nov. 2. The fall signing period is Nov. 14-21.
OSU coaches are said to be looking at junior college big men in case Jones decides to go elsewhere.
It will be interesting to see if/how the new recruiting restrictions (loss of scholarship, punishment of asst. coach) at IU will affect KJ's recruitment.
I don't think they lost any scholarships because of Sampson's violations at Oklahoma and his personal recruiting ban is over. Back to Jones...Sorry didn't see the article about Sampson

Sorry, didn't post a link beacause I had only heard about it on the B10 Network.

Indy Star

Here are the key points:

[Indiana AD] Greenspan said Sampson agreed to forfeit a scheduled $500,000 raise and lost a scholarship for the 2008-09 season after it was determined he had violated conditions of recruiting sanctions that kept him on campus for the 2006-07 season and prohibited him from calling recruits.
Along with Sampson's loss of wages, [Asst. Coach] Senderoff will not be allowed to call recruits through July 2008 and will not be allowed to recruit on the road. According to Greenspan, if Senderoff were to leave the program, the sanction would remain in place.
