'08 OH LB Michael Zordich (Penn State signee)

Now it's Dad's turn to watch

Ohio's Zordich shadowed his NFL father for years Thursday, June 12, 2008BY BOB FLOUNDERSOf The Patriot-News
The Ohio linebacker from Cardinal Mooney High in Youngstown has different childhood memories than most.

Michael Zordich remembers his first toy, a gift from his dad, an NFL strong safety named Michael Zordich who was a Penn State stalwart in the mid-1980s.

It was a Philadelphia Eagles game ball.

The younger Zordich picked PSU over Ohio State despite a close relationship with fellow Youngstown-ian Jim Tressel, the Buckeyes coach.

Zordich said he has no regrets. Neither do his parents.

"Obviously, they were thrilled with the decision," Zordich laughed.

Zordich's father, mom Cindy, younger brother Alex and grandfather Milan Zordich will be in Hershey Saturday for the game.

"I think Penn State is getting a great one," Ohio head coach Jim Ryan said of Zordich.

"Physically, he is just put-together, he has fine size for an inside linebacker and he has that football savvy. You can tell he's been well-tutored by his father."

Penn State RB Michael Zordich involved in second drinking-related incident
By BOB FLOUNDERS, The Patriot-News
April 15, 2010

Penn State running back Mike Zordich, a 19-year-old redshirt sophomore, was charged with underage drinking by police early Sunday morning in State College.

Zordich, a backup fullback, was stopped at the corner of Bigler and McKean streets at 1:24 a.m., according to charges filed with District Judge Carmine Prestia.

According to the report, Zordich was charged after police detected alcohol on his breath.

Zordich was charged with DUI by university police last September.

A natural source of energy
Zorich wants his emotional style to rub off on listless Penn State teammates.

DEREK LEVARSE [email protected]

He made contact with the first defender at the line of scrimmage. Michael Zordich stumbled a bit, but kept his balance.

The fullback turned into the arms of another Temple player, slowing him up enough to allow two more to flow to the ball and try for the strip.

Zordich?s arms wouldn?t budge and his legs kept churning.

The pile around him grew, as at least five Owls and two Penn State teammates joined the fray. Somehow, Zordich emerged from the crowd falling forward for a few extra yards.

The sophomore popped up at the Temple 7-yard line and let out a roar, bouncing up and down as the adrenaline kept pumping.

Three plays later, Zordich got the ball again, lowered his head and burrowed through the line for a rare red zone touchdown for the Nittany Lions, locking up a come-from-behind win.

In what had been a listless game for Penn State, which settled for five field goals until that goal-line plunge, it was an unlikely character who delivered the spark.

Zordich, who has bounced between linebacker and fullback in his three years on campus, is one of the livelier players on an offense that has shown little emotion through six games.
