Teammates Beachum, Hill inch closer to college choices

YOUNGSTOWN ? Mooney senior Brandon Beachum has heard plenty of outside advice about where he should go to college.

And some of it comes from his teammate, Michael Zordich, who has already committed to Penn State.

"Yeah, obviously, I hear it daily from Michael," said Beachum, who has narrowed his college choice to three schools: Nebraska, Wisconsin and Penn State. "The funny thing is, it started off with me probably being the first to commit. Now I'll be one of the last."

Zordich committed to Penn State last month and teammate Dan McCarthy chose Notre Dame on Monday.

Beachum (6-0, 220), who plans to graduate in December and enroll early in the college of his choice, has already visited Wisconsin and Penn State and has done plenty of homework on Nebraska, although he hasn't visited the campus.

"I haven't decided yet," said Beachum, who hasn't set a timetable on when he will commit. "Obviously, everyone in Ohio wants me to go to O-State but that offer hasn't come through.

"At this point in time, I'm going to go where I feel right."

I guess I didn't realize Rivals had Beachum as the #5 RB in the country. I must have missed that in the 5,000 x's I have perused it.

BB seems like a good kid, and while I am frustrated to see the 4 Mooney kids escape the state lines...we have to trust the staff's evaluation of BB and Taylor Hill, and chalk up Z and McCarthy to legacies...

Boy, don't go on the Rivals national board and try to explain to them that McCarthy's ND ties made it hard for us to overcome for his verbal... They'll tell you you're being a homer and making excuses... Geez...

There are other things at play here besides concerns over Beachum's size... Trust the staff on this one... (I won't say any more than that)...

I've heard that a few times recently and it strikes me as odd. As I said before, I am close to the program, (alum) and BB is a great kid, respectful, humble and gets along well with everyone.

He is the only Mooney athlete to ever graduate early and enroll in college. He has to be doing something right, considering all the positive feedback on him.

Was his ACT score not that impressive for OSU standards? He is NOW a legit 6-1". The questions about him being smaller aren't true.

When he stated that he would be the first of the four to commit, it was because he thought tOSU would offer early and he would jump on it.

Maybe it's not anything about BB that's the problem at all...

BB officially measured in at 5'11'' at the pittsburgh combine about 2 months ago. I don't think he's grown 2 inches since then.

Agree; while talking to him and Dan McC. at the UofM camp in June I noticed that BB is, at best, 5'11".
Dan McC, on the other hand, is a good 6'1-1/2"+.

I thought the scout camp in May in Pittsburgh had him at 6'. He will just begin his senior year and very likely get taller. All things aside, he is a class act.

OSU22...I think I get your point.
If you do, could you share it with me? If this is a cryptic reference to the impact on Torrence's commitment if BB was offered, I can't see what the need for secrecy is.
