'08 OH OL Elliot Mealer (Michigan Signee)

Well if you put it in our perspective right now, we have 4 guys who look very promising to be in this class.

Certainly not arguing against that.

With so few schollies to hand out, how could you justify an offer at this point when you are looking so good?

I didn't say we should go to our contingency plans now, but rather after summer.

Yes, there are certainly diamonds in the rough and we have found them occasionally...but how do you discern a diamond in the rough from a player that is ranked below a blue chipper for a reason? That is the staffs job and they haven't offered, so good enough for me.

You make a good point and not much can be said about that, except that you have to realize kids like Mealer would probably have offers by now if we weren't fortunate enough to have so many OOS blue chip prospects looking at us. Not having an OSU offer at hand this early does not automatically put the OL prospect in the diamond in the rough category this year.

So some were rated highly, some weren't...point is that the staff knows how to find them and I am not worried about the OL recruiting this year in the slightest.

Neither am I. The way I see is very simple: 1). We could have all of Block-O in the bad before the end of summer after summer visits. By that point, there is really not much more to see for these guys except for Jenkins, who haven't come to a game yet.
2). We don't have their commitments secured. We offer some other quality prospects such as Mealer. We land them and call it a day.
3). We don't have their commitments and decide to wait it out. Of course, I prefer option 1.

From the Michigan site...Elliot will visit UM again this week. Despite growing up an OSU fan he is seriously entertaining the idea of playing in Ann Arbor.

This could be a situation where is OSU offers, we get him...if not, he heads North.

Elliot says that Michigan is in the lead and tOSU is right behind. He will be in attendance at the spring game and is hoping that the staff will offer him then.

Sounds like Elliot is trying to force staff's hand a little... We'll see how it goes over... I'm confident that if he gets an offer from us, he'll be a Buckeye... Let's hope that if he doesn't get it this weekend he will hold off and come to camp before making a decision...

That was my feeling as well...I do feel that he would wait...The staff should have a feel for Shugarts after this weekend tho...

That's a sure thing with Shugarts...we are in good shape and with a good weekend, I think we either get him or we are way out in front. If it doesn't go so great, we could get the vibe that he isn't coming here. Plus if Long decides on baseball I think Mealer could get an offer. So I think with all these factors Mealer would be smart to wait until the previous 2 things have been figured out.

Just got around to watching Mealer's film and I was impressed...He moves so well and shows that fast DE's won't be beating him on pure speed, and he also shows great ability to get to the 2nd level...Of course he will need to add stregth and technique, but he has the overall athletic abilty and the size for Left or Right Tackle...

By BK...Mealer will wait to see what happens during the May evaluation period but does have Michigan as his leader.

Tough spot for the kid...wants an OSU offer and Michigan knows OSU is slow-playing him while they wait on others.
