'08 OH QB Domonick Britt (Jackson St. signee, transfer to Urbana)

Frosh QB Britt needs clearance

Jackson State is still waiting for freshman Domonick Britt to be cleared academically by the NCAA. The quarterback from Trotwood-Madison (Ohio), given a three-star rating by Rivals.com, has been practicing during training camp but cannot play until cleared.

JSU coach Rick Comegy said Britt's high school still has to file some paperwork with the NCAA.

According to NCAA bylaw 14.3.5.1.1, a recruited student athlete can practice, but not compete, for a 14-day period before being cleared. Afterward, a student-athlete cannot receive financial aid or continue to practice until being certified.

Jackson State defensive coordinator Darrin Hayes said Britt has only participated in eight practices since camp began Aug. 4.

"That's why we pulled him off," Hayes said. "We wanted to pace it."

Britt shopping around
Quarterback Domonick Britt (Trotwood-Madison) is in the market for a second chance after leaving Jackson State University in September. He's back in the area and Trotwood coach Maurice Douglass says he's considering Kent State and Central State, among others.
Homesickness apparently sacked Britt in Mississippi, although Douglass said, "My understanding was he didn't work as hard down there. He really could be special, but he has to find out what he wants."
Britt had drawn interest from Ohio State, Michigan and the like. "We thought it was a good fit," Jackson State recruiting coordinator Greg Ruffin said. "But he wasn't into it."
