this guy is a special running back. But you said the back up running back is getting looks at from osu?? wait so he is a five star blue chip player and can't make all district, what is wrong with the media voters!

his name is Justin turner and after reading his thread it sounds like he will be getting an offer from OSU.

Torrence, herring and Turner rb/c, junior. 3 supposedly great RB'S on the same team:! and Herring the only one mentioned on the list of NEO INLAND DISTRICT. A few other surprises that OSU likes but, these clowns don't

Let's go ahead and meet this one head-on...you've all heard the rumors by now.

Too much information rolling around right now...none of it has been confirmed.

Smoke? Yes. Fire? Not yet.

This thread is locked until we get something concrete from a legit source. When there is something concrete to report, we'll open it up...

TORRENCE HASN?T VISITED

Massillon tailback DeVoe Torrence verbally committed to Ohio State before the high school season and well before he transferred there from Canton South.

One of the state?s most recruited players, Torrence has not taken an official visit to OSU. That isn?t necessarily unusual, but by now in-state recruits who have verbally committed to OSU almost always have taken an official visit. That tells us something isn?t right with Torrence ending up at Ohio State.

OSU jumped on Texas running back Aundre Dean late in the process. OSU had planned to sign one running back in this class. Dean rushed for more than 2,000 yards this season and has close to 6,000 in his career. He is 6-foot-1, 210 pounds. Torrence is 6-2, 215. Dean originally committed to UCLA, but is taking a second look after the Bruins fired Head Coach Karl Dorrell.

Dean hasn?t scheduled an official visit to OSU, not unusual for an out-of-state recruit.

Perhaps Torrence is better suited at Michigan in Rodriguez?s spread offense. Torrence excelled in the spread at Canton South but struggled, at times, running out of the I-formation at Massillon.

But one player who made a verbal commitment may have to go shopping for another school. Massillon's Devoe Torrence, the top running back in Ohio, has had several off-field incidents, putting his future with the Buckeyes in jeopardy.

"I'll be surprised if he's in this class," said Duane Long, recruiting analyst for Bucknuts.com.

Ohio State pull scholarship offer to DeVoe Torrence
Wednesday, January 30, 2008
By Todd Porter
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

COLUMBUS Stark County football will be on the outside looking in when Ohio State announces its 2008 recruiting class a week from today.

The Buckeyes have pulled their full-ride scholarship offer to Massillon running back DeVoe Torrence, a source within OSU's program told The Repository on Tuesday night. Sources close to OSU's program confirmed the offer had been pulled.

Torrence lost his scholarship for off-the-field issues which may include academic problems, sources said. The Repository first reported earlier this month that one of Ohio's top recruits had not scheduled an official visit to Ohio State.

A message left for Torrence, considered one of the state's top prospects, was not returned. His voice mail box was full, but Torrence also did not respond to a text message sent to his cell phone.

Massillon head coach Tom Stacy declined comment earlier this week on Torrence's future. All scholarship offers include character and academic provisions which give schools the right to pull offers if not met.

This will be the first time in at least 15 years a Stark County player has not signed a scholarship offer with the Buckeyes.

Torrence trial may start, end this week

The final teen formally charged with having sex with underage Massillon girls will have his day in court this week.
DeVoe Torrence, 17, who is charged with first-degree felony rape, is scheduled to go on trial Wednesday in Stark County Family Court. If convicted, Torrence faces a minimum of one year in a state juvenile prison up to his 21st birthday. He also would be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Prosecutors have offered Torrence the opportunity to plead guilty to the lesser charge of gross sexual imposition, which carries a minimum six-month youth prison term.
Torrence, who starred on the gridiron for the Tigers and was heavily recruited by Ohio State, turned down the plea deal.
?DeVoe has maintained that nothing ever happened. That?s his position and his sticking to it,? said Jeffrey Haupt, Torrence?s attorney. ?He wants very much a chance to clear his name. He would very much like to get his life back.?
Torrence?s case will be heard by Judge David Stucki who will decide the teen?s guilt or innocence.

He also would be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Not to go OT, but I have a serious problem with this application of the registered sex offender status. If he was having sex with a 12 year old I wont argue that was wrong. But it was teenage hormones and very poor judgment. There is almost certainly nothing in this incident that would indicate he is a risk to commit forcible rape or molest a child at a later age.

Yet he will pop up in the database right along with the 40 year old man who molested his 8 year old nephew and the 50 year old who surfs the net looking for 16 year old girls. It is not remotely how the designation should be used.
