'08 OH WR Cordale Scott (Illinois Signee; Transfer to Toledo)

I think what hurts the most is that our aura of invincibility with Glenville recruits is gone. People have been chalking up Cordale for 6+ months now simply because he went to Glenville, so there was no realistic chance he didn't end up at tOSU. And then he chose Illinois.

What worries me is that he opened the door for other Glenville recruits to spurn tOSU and follow him to a place like Illinois. While TG Sr. is there this is unlikely to happen, but I still rather Cordale ended up here.

Oh yeah, and he is a pretty good football player too.

It's just a shame to see us miss on a Glenville prospect really but if we were going to miss on any we offered, it may as well have been Cordale. He is a good player that I would have liked to see us get but there are few spots open and many others interested at positions of need. I would much rather close with Wells or McCray if possible. As the Soup Nazi says...NEXT!

Edit: Also, I think it's really not all that crazy now that it's happened, with the Rowell verbal and other offers going out there. It also seemed, as someone else mentioned, that we never seemed to send the house on Cordale and I'm sure Zook did.

I did not expect us to lose a top recruit from Glenville. Also given that Shawntel just verballed here.

I guess from Cordale's point of view, maybe the decision was driven by him being promised playing time earlier at Illinois as compared to here.

However, I don't think that this may be last of Cordale's recruiting journey. It is possible to expect the Buckeyes to come at him hard even now.

Scott last summer listed OSU as high interest on Rivals with Illinois not listed at all, just came on strong at the end. My request is not intended to be negative or sour grapes. The position depth and early PT at Ill vs. OSU sure explains why the family would believe that this was the best opportunity for CS.
I also read, however that he was taking his act on Dec. 8 prior to his OSU official visit. Rivals lists his core GPA at 3.1 with an sat taken in May. So does anyone know what score on the act would be required to meet admission standards with a Glenville HS 3.1 gpa? Are Illinois' admission standards looser than OSU? Recalling the struggle that Freddie Lenix had with admissions and then the Ray Small hold your breath summer 2006 admission issues, I wonder how strongly ambiguous admission standards factored into CS reluctance to issue an OSU verbal.

It's just refreshing to know that tOSU has been loaded and will continue to be so. Thus, I'm not too worried about this decision by Cordale.

Glenville's Scott commits to Illini

Friday, December 21, 2007 Bob Fortuna

Plain Dealer Reporter
Glenville senior wide receiver/safety/kickoff returner Cordale Scott shocked the world late Wednesday with an oral commitment to the University of Illinois.
Scott, The Plain Dealer's Defensive Player of the Year, chose the Fighting Illini over Ohio State. He made just two visits, to OSU two weekends ago and to Illinois last weekend.
"It was a very tough decision," said Scott, rated the third-best senior in the November issue of Ohio High Magazine. "I liked both campuses and the coaching staff at both schools, but my mom and I sat down and decided Illinois is the best place for me."

I am not in the know, but one would assume UofI has lax admissions standards with respect to tOSU's. Jeff Cumberland, Brian Gamble, and Joe Morgan are three players from the state of Ohio where it was rumored that the Ohio State staff wanted...some more than others. None received offers from tOSU (non-contingent offers that is) and all three headed to Urbana-Zima.

Alas, tOSU couldn't offer them due to Ohio State's ever-evolving academic entrance requirements.

Joe Morgan was a top student, so academics wasn't the issue with him. The other two would not have made it through Ohio State's admissions office.

Morgan from McKinley? I thought everyone in Ohio was convinced he wouldn't make it into any D1 school but magically he got into Illinois...may be thinking of someone different.

Are you thinking of Morgan Williams? He had the grade issues.

Joe was a good student...3.6 GPA and 20+ on the ACT
