'08 OH WR Cordale Scott (Illinois Signee; Transfer to Toledo)

I am not in the know, but one would assume UofI has lax admissions standards with respect to tOSU's. Jeff Cumberland, Brian Gamble, and Joe Morgan are three players from the state of Ohio where it was rumored that the Ohio State staff wanted...some more than others. None received offers from tOSU (non-contingent offers that is) and all three headed to Urbana-Zima.

Alas, tOSU couldn't offer them due to Ohio State's ever-evolving academic entrance requirements.
I'm also not in the know at all, but I do know that Illinois is a very fine school in general. Judging by recruits that have gone in there, I would assume that they bend their admission standards more-so than Ohio State- but their 'lower limit' might be very similar to Ohio State's.

Again, though, I'm certainly not 'in the know' at all.

It's just refreshing to know that tOSU has been loaded and will continue to be so. Thus, I'm not too worried about this decision by Cordale.

You are totally correct.....tOSU will always be loaded no matter what.....tOSU and scUM will always be number 1 and 2 in the Big Ten...there's nothing any other school can do about that....all they can do is try and keep up....Scott would have been a great addition but tOSU will just replace him with someone just as good.

Good Luck Cordale

I guess you cant blame a kid for wanting to play, Good luck cordale, and not worried we still have Lamar Thomas which could be used on both side of the ball and Washington which is coming around faster than Ray Small last year. GO BUCKS

Agree - UofI is a great school, which makes the fact that Cumberland and Gamble were able to make it in last year even more puzzling. A high school friend of mine graduated from their school of business, which is excellent.

As far as admission standards are concerned, there obviously isn't a level playing field.

Maybe if Illinois plays in 5 of the next 6 BCS bowl games and 2 straight MNC games, they'd be held under the same microscope we are and their admissions standards would be adjusted accordingly.

Football tapping into Ohio State pipeline
John Supinie
ILLINOIS
Tuesday, January 29, 2008

Illinois wide receiver Arrelious Benn turned down college football's big names - such as Southern Cal, Notre Dame and Florida State - to play football at Illinois last fall. Instead of joining a program with a winning tradition, Benn chose to help build one.

A year later, wide receiver Cordale Scott of Glenville High School in Cleveland is taking the same path for the same reason. The Glenville senior allowed the Illini to get a foot in the door of one of the country's top prep-football powerhouses, but he plans to make a difference on the field, too.

"That's one reason I came here,'' Scott said. "I'm a leader type. That's my character. Ohio State has a lot of tradition. A lot of players coming out of Glenville are going to Ohio State. That made the decision hard for me.

With the friends-and-family recruiting strategy that repeatedly hits the same programs, the Illini already are chasing Glenville offensive tackle Marcus Hall in what likely becomes another Illinois-Ohio State fight. Glenville, located in Cleveland's inner city, had 21 players earn scholarships from its 2005 team, including 15 in Division I-A.

"I could see other guys coming,'' Scott said. "It depends on my success level at Illinois. Other guys will want to come there if I do well.''

Scott is a solid verbal who is expected to sign a letter of intent Feb. 6. The locals still can't believe he will wear orange and blue instead of scarlet and gray.

"There are Ohio State fans that ask the questions of why without trying to change my mind,'' Scott said. "The real good question is 'Why did you do that?' I told them what Illinois has to offer, and I say, 'Have you ever been to Illinois? Have they met the coaches?' I leave it at that.''

Scott returns to Ohio
By Bob Asmussen
Thursday, December 3, 2009

Illinois sophomore receiver Cordale Scott wasn't at practice Thursday and returned home to Ohio to deal with family issues.

Scott won't be with the team for Saturday's season finale against Fresno State. He remains a member of the squad.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder was a star receiver at Cleveland Glenville, earning a four-star rating from Rivals.com. Considered one of the gems of the 2008 recruiting class, Scott picked Illinois over Ohio State, which had been the destination for most Glenville standouts. Scott's career at Illinois hasn't gone as expected. He has no catches in his first two seasons and has seen most of his action on special teams.

Scott has played in all 11 games this season. He has recovered a fumbled punt and has three special teams tackles.

Asked earlier in the season why Scott wasn't getting more time on offense, receivers coach Jim Pry said the sophomore needed to be more consistent catching passes.

With the loss of seniors Chris Duvalt and Jeff Cumberland and the possible early departure of Arrelious Benn, Scott is expected to have a chance for increased playing time in 2010.
