Tigers destroy Madison 66-21, will face Pflugerville for title
By Nick Georgandis
Sports Editor

Dean finished with 176 yards on 21 carries with three scores.

?We beat them with the play-action early, and they had to back off,? Dean said.

?The line did a tremendous job, our offense has gotten better every single week, and now we're back where we've wanted to be all year.?

CLASS 5A DIVISION II FINAL
Moving to Katy as a fifth-grader was a life-changing experience for Aundre Dean, who learned what it means to be a Tiger

It was just something to do ? a way to stay out of trouble and meet new friends. Seven years later, football has become a big part of the running back's life.

So big that Dean will be playing in his second state football championship game in three years Saturday at 7 p.m. when his Katy Tigers play Pflugerville for the Class 5A Division II title at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

But Dean's life wasn't always about football.

Until fifth grade, Dean lived in foster homes and with his grandmother in the Alief area. But everything changed that year when Aundre and his sister were adopted by Jennifer and Mike Dean and moved to Katy.

Katy won the state title today 28-7. Dean rushed for 220 yards on 30 carries, including a 66 yard TD run. Dean was impressive. Runs with a ton of power and determination. He had a 15 yard run which he carried the pile for 10 of it. Utilizes a spin move quite well and also showed his speed on his long TD run.

SAN ANTONIO -- Katy calls itself the "Home of Champions," and the Tigers added another title on Saturday behind running back Aundre Dean.

Dean rushed for 220 yards and a touchdown, leading Katy to its fifth state championship with a 28-7 victory over Pflugerville in the Texas Class 5A Division II final.

The Tigers, the No. 5 team in the ESPN HIGH Elite 25 rankings, completed a perfect 16-0 season as quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell added 142 passing yards and three TD passes at the Alamodome.

But Katy struggled early, needing a Hail Mary pass at the end of the first half to tie the game.

"This was the first time we were ever really challenged," Dean said. "And we weren't even challenged -- we just had to relax."

Dean started things by bursting through a hole up the middle for a 66-yard TD run.

He was named offensive player of the game with 30 carries for 220 yards -- 128 of his yards came in the second half. Dean, the No. 59 overall prospect in the ESPN 150 and named to the Under Armour All-America Game, admitted he was frustrated when Katy was trailing.

"I was a little out of control and getting into it real bad," Dean said. "The Hail Mary helped me a lot, and got me back on my feet. I'm happy it happened when it did, because it gave everybody a little bit of spirit."

As it affects Mr. Dean, there is a report out of Charlotte (actually a teaser before the 11pm news) that Jon Fox (current coach of the NFL Panthers) may be on his way to UCLA..... I will update as soon as it is confirmed.....

Reported (by the CBS affliate here in Charlotte) he has been contacted, however no confirmation by the panthers or Fox....

Visiting Louisville (1/11), Alabama (1/13), Arizona State (1/18), Ohio State (1/20) and LSU (1/26). Talks about his interest in each school.

Step 1: officially offer a scholarship from Ohio State (check)
Step 2: schedule official visit (check)
Step 3: officially offer verbal commitment to Ohio State
Step 4: officially sign a letter of intent for Ohio State

Solid family values are a huge influence in his life, I have to tell you with the list of Official Visits now out for Aundre you have to like tOSU Coaching Staff against any of the other finalists. Get Tress in his living room with him and his parents and I have to think there is going to be a nice match. Good luck Aundre, love to see you in Columbus.

I really hope we sign a big back like Aundre this year to groom for action in 2009. This time next year Beanie starts putting millions in his pockets and will have to be replaced. Aundre and Brandon Saine behind the block O will be scary.
