Howie Long's son commits ... to baseball at Florida State

TALLAHASSEE ? With a pedigree like Kyle Long's - his dad is NFL Hall of Fame defensive end Howie Long, and his brother is Virginia football player Chris Long - it would make sense that he would follow in his family's football footsteps.
But the junior from St. Anne's-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Va., chose to ditch the football cleats for baseball spikes and last weekend orally committed to Florida State to play baseball.
The Seminoles are looking at the 6-foot-7, 280-pounder as a pitcher and first baseman. Long's high school baseball coach Alan Swanson said he's an imposing figure both on the mound and at the plate.
"As a pitcher he throws in the 90s, and when you're 6-7 and throw in the 90s, that's a great combination," Swanson said. "And he hits the ball harder than I've ever seen."

Bait and switch.
Bet they talk him into football after he's on campus.
Brilliant. Then father Howie can blast your program on national TV every sunday. That's just what a reeling program needs...

Besides their baseball program is better (currently) than their football counterpart, according to wiki....
Since 2000, FSU is the winningest program in college baseball with more victories and a higher winning percentage in the regular season than any other school. Despite their regular-season success, Florida State is still chasing their first College World Series Championship, which is that elusive feat that separates the Seminoles from the true elite of College Baseball.

Do you disagree that Howie will make this a public scandal?

They will also poison the character of their baseball program once opposing recruiters use their lying ways against them.

Yes.

Scandal is a word that is thrown around with entirely too much freedom anymore...who really cares if he decides to play football?

It's already been discussed that the kid loves whatever sport he is playing at the time. It's already been proven that he obviously makes his own decisions so toss out the "peer pressure" argument. If he plays football, it will be his decision and only his decision.

As for Dad saying anything, I don't buy it. If Howie had something to say, I see him in Bowden's office...not lowering himself on national TV.

If Bowden does not at least drop a line in the water, he is not doing his job. With Rick Trickett down there now, I'm with Taos, this one bears watching.

And Amato there, also! Got to give then credit for playing this game.
They are very desperate and will stop at nothing to get back in the national picture.

I'm not willing to assume that much...I see him going for baseball and being told the door is open if he ever wants to try football.
FWIW - I asked a close family friend yesterday, and was told that KL is focused on playing football in college - in fact, the email only had one word in it, "Football."
Wow - some source. About three days after KL's decision was posted, the person I know from CLT'ville let me know that he had suprised everyone and chose baseball... my bad.
