Rancho Dominguez (CA) Artesia

Ht: 6-foot-9
Wt: 225 lbs
AAU:

Considered the #1 player in the 2009 class nationally by Rivals.com and Scout.com. Has been compared to Kevin Garnett.

Scout.com lists his favories as UCLA, Florida, Kentucky, Ohio State, Texas, UAB and USC. Rivals.com lists only UCLA and USC as his favorites.

Scout.com update 7/5/07

Sidney lists UCLA, Texas, USC, Ohio State, Florida, UAB and Kentucky as schools of interest.

Is his game based more on athleticism or skills? Either way, I've heard him compared to everyone from KG to Kenyon Martin with a jumper to Carmelo. Kenyon Martin with a jumper seems the most appropriate just looking at his body and size.

Some kids don't develop the defenition in their arms, but are still very strong...His body type looks a lot like Kevin Love from this past recruiting class...

Could be, but Kevin Love isn't exactly an athletic specimen. I'm just wondering if Sidney is that good of an athlete to warrent comparisons to KG, who has been one of the top five athletic big men since he entered the NBA.

That would be interesting if we were to get Sidney, with Thomas and Sullinger the following year. I guess if Sidney is a one and done player, it wouldn't be an issue, but I worry about taking too many of these types of players.

Either way, Matta has a better idea of who he's going to land and how many years they'll stay than anyone on this board.

True, but his profile does not list any offers. Perhaps he just doesn't like talking about them. Otherwise, it's strange to see that for a potential #1 prospect in his class.

Sidney is originally from Mississippi, but moved to LA for HS. I'm sure he's listening to Matta, but honestly, I think, hoops wise, tOSU has moved into the club of "WOW" offers for kids-they might not really be interested, but it sure is cool to tell everyone "I got an offer from OSU,Arizona,Duke,Syracuse, etc."

Sidney - all 6-foot-10, 235 pounds of him - was inconsistent throughout the week. He makes this list because when he did dominate, he was utterly unstoppable.
The enormous power forward averaged 14 ppg., despite not reaching double figures in three contests.
Sidney showed, at various times, that he has every ability imaginable. He can shoot from the outside, bang on the inside, rebound (he collected 5.8 rpg), pass, run in transition and is quite athletic for his size.
Sidney, who has not selected a college of choice, drew more attention than anyone of coaches and scouts over the past three days.
In an interview with The Bulletin, he announced that the National Championship game's runner-up is the frontrunner.
"I have a lot of schools recruiting me," he said, "but I really like Ohio State. That's who I'm leaning towards."Sidney did not mention any other schools he's looking at, but many recruiting Web sites have USC, UCLA, Texas and Florida as possibilities.

Wow. The fact that we are the only school that is even mentioned is just incredible. I think I could be ok with banking one 2008 schollie and ending up with a 2009 class of Sidney and Cheek.
If you had those two guys for 2009 making a scholarship in 2008 would be a no-brainer:biggrin:I mean they would only be two of the best.
