'09 IN PF Stephen Van Treese (Louisville Verbal)

Dispatch
With only one scholarship to offer in 2009, Ohio State men's basketball coach Thad Matta is saving it for a big man to replace B.J. Mullens, who is expected to be the Buckeyes' third straight one-and-done center next spring.

One of the would-be prospects will be on campus this weekend. Stephan Van Treese, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Greg Oden's alma mater, Indianapolis Lawrence North, will participate with his teammates in Ohio State's team camp Saturday and Sunday.

Van Treese, who attended Kansas' elite camp last weekend, told Rivals.com that the five schools he is considering are Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Ohio State and UCLA.

Rivals ranks Van Treese No. 121 on its list of the top 150 recruits in 2009.

Either way, I've been under the assumption (from the time they hired Crean) that IU is the favorite for Van Treese's services.

With all the openings they have, probation or no probation, this is a huge opportunity for a lot of these newbies coming into IU's program. I agree through LB, it would be very intelligent to wait and see, especially with so many scholarships still available there.

Visit Clears Situation Up for Van Treese.........Indiana has not offered and they have indicated they need to see him play a few more times before a decision is made. Indiana remains very interested.

Note: Originally offered by Sampson's staff......now must be evaluated by new staff.

I think the other thing that Indiana has to be careful of is not to sign too many guys just because they have so many scholarships available. That might come and bite them later. I have to believe that Crean or someone on his staff has seen this kid play before.

Indiana has 7 new guys coming in this year and 4 commitments already for '09 and not knowing what underclassmen they have on their current roster with possible NCAA sanctions coming I personally do you think they will have " room" for him IMO Personally, I don't know if Ohio State will have room for him depending on how manyscholarships Coach Matta will want to give out in '10.
