Zips football: Former Massillon standout appears at practice
By George Thomas Published: April 12, 2012

The long and winding road that leads to a collegiate football career for former Massillon Tigers standout Justin Turner might land him at the University of Akron.

Turner was recruited and signed by the University of Michigan in 2009, only to leave abruptly in 2010, then land in West Virginia before landing at a junior college in Scottsdale, Ariz., this past football season. He was spotted at the Zips practice facility taking in a session.

As recently as December, Turner, who starred at defensive back, was expected to end up at the University of Hawaii after orally committing Dec. 4, according to reports. Apparently, however, that has fallen through leaving the Zips as a viable option.

There is interest on Turner?s part, according to the source.

Coming out of high school, Turner was considered a five-star recruit and committed to Michigan over the likes of Ohio State and other schools.

Coach Terry Bowden wouldn?t comment citing NCAA rules.

However, if Turner is indeed interested, the Zips would be crazy not to welcome him to the program, provided that his academic and personal affairs are in order.
