'09 OH RB/DB Darrell Mason (Ft. Scott Junior College Signee)

Went to the UHS and South Range game on Fri.
Mason didn't start at rb. It appears that Allen Jones is the starter, though they do split a lot of their time.
I figured Jones was the senior and getting the majority of the carriers. Not the case, Jones is only a sophomore.

Does anyone know if Jones the better back? Appeared that way to me. We've heard a lot about Mason, but never Jones.

Wow, a lot of sophomore RBs out there. Spencer Ware, Eric Howard and now Allen Jones in Ohio off the top of my head. I think Mason is a Safety at OSU, if he comes, but he does have some nice numbers at RB.

It’s Ursuline’s first title bid since 2000.- Blitz on Vindy.com - Youngstown, Warren, Columbiana, Mahoning Valley High Ohio School Football

"It felt good running downhill in the second half," said Darrell Mason who rushed 15 times for 101 yards.

"My line was running downhill with me."

11/30

By Crabtree...recap of Ursuline's loss, highlighted by the play of Harold Coates and Darrell Mason.

Tough game for Darrell...finished with 12 carries for 11 yards. Marion Local's defense was keying on him all day. Really starting to see him as a defensive target...

TOP 100 JUNIOR NEVER GETS ON TRACK
Early on Ursuline tried everything it could to get 2009 four-star prospect Darrell Mason on track at running back. But the 6-foot, 210-pound athlete could never become a factor in the game.

He ended up with 12 carries for only 11 yards with a long of only 5 yards. Every time he touched the ball, Marion Local would swarm to him, and he never could get a chance to get the ball in the open field and use his explosiveness. He did show some flashes of brilliance on defense in run support, and he had a key tackle on a goal-line situation.

After seeing the success on defense, it's easy to see why some schools like him much better at the safety spot than at running back.

I third it...defense for sure. He is definetly worth taking in this class but I'm not as high on Mason as was after seeing his sophmore highlights. It looks like he's lost a bit of speed and is real hesitant when he's carrying the ball. On top of that, not the greatest acceleration off of his cuts. I'm much higher on Toussaint at RB at this point but I'm curious if Mason put on too much weight in the off season. Either way I tend to think he will have to earn his offer at camp.

Mason and Ferrell are two kids who got u excited with their sophomore film and size.. but have likely grown out of safety/RB and LB respectively..

Now it's a matter of seeing how they can adapt to new positions, and how they project at those positions down the line..
